JCW pulley removal
JCW pulley removal
Semi confused as to whether the "JCW pulley removal tool" is the only way to remove said pulley....
Wanting to swap to a smaller pulley, but being told the only way to remove is with the "JCW pulley removal tool" to which apparently 1 exists in the entire world. ;0
Any confirmation?

remover for JCW. Saved me a lot of money....otherwise I have to buy it myself.
Oh yeah...unfortunately I live in Connecticut.
If you go this route, be very careful you don't damage the SC shaft. Best to simply buy or rent a pulley tool. You might contact Way (http://www.waymotorworks.com/) to see if he has one that you can rent.
I was on tech supprt with Alta last night and was informed that the way they accomodate the smaller diameter JCW pulley is to sandwich some pop-can between the stock pulley remover and the slightly smaller JCW pulley.
YMMV, but I think Alta has a good rep around here, no? I'm n00b.

Heard much the same... Guys at Way wanted to act like their tool was the only option for removing my JCW. Fortunately found out there were other options.

I used this puller & it worked great:

The only downside is you have to jack/tilt your motor more to make room for it.

my pulley was destroyed by the dealer when they did my reduction. it also destroyed the pulley remover!!!
so, be careful! id say, try a cheapy version first, like from Harbor Freight. Otherwise, a crow bar, hammers, and maybe some heat will do it. thats what the dealer here did! i saw 3 guys with a freakin crow bar and hammers going to town on my pulley! lol.
id say, use some lube of some sort, really soak that thing like, over night. then, if its still not loose, maybe try a heat gun on the pulley itself, heat it so it expands just a fraction...
