JCW ECU upgrades - dealer only?

Hi all,

I've been looking for this on the forum but can't see it... so sorry if this has been asked before...

I am ordering a handful of R53 JCW parts for my 06 Cooper S and some of them are meant to work with JCW ecu upgrades (like the injectors & the flap airbox).

I've seen the BMW TIS sheets and it looks like you need to install the software at the same time that you are installing the parts.

I wanted to install the parts myself (easy - I've done this before), and either try to research an aftermarket ecu upgrade, or ONLY bring the car to the stealership for the ECU re-flash.

Can I drive the car with 380 injectors + upgraded airbox on the stock R53 ecu just to get to the stealership if I decide to use their overpriced services?

The less I deal with the dealership the happier I find myself.
Ever since the warranty ran out I've had nothing but problems with them.

What do you all think?
Thx

-e

The fuel map for the 380's is different, so it may or may not run at all or very good. You'd be better off to find a place that does custom tunes on MINI's and have them do a tune with your mods.

You will be fine putting the new intake and injectors in and then driving around. I put my JCW injectors in and then drove down to rhode island the next day for the update and the car was fine. The ECU can take up to the JCW sized injectors without immediately needing a re-tune
