2004 JCW special edition
2004 JCW special edition
I am looking at a 2004 JCW Mini. I think it is an MC40 48000 miles. very clean. Has the Monte Carlo 40th stickers and the 33EJB on the hood. I am not sure what was included in this special run of 1000 cars. Could anyone fill me in on what this edition came with as standard? dealer is asking $15,995. for this car. Is this a fair price? I have been wanting a JCW Mini since they first came out, and with the economy the way it is, its going to be a while before I can swing a new one. Hoping this is a good deal and I can snap it up.
Not real sure., Looked at a MC40 couple years ago. Thoughtn it was only the decalsm and a shift ****. Did not notice any JCW badging, which I think the dealer installed the kit at that time.
In any event a Mini dealer can run the vin and tell you exactly what the car was built with. Ask nicely.
I would expect they would take less. Good kuck!

MC 40 had the shift ****, JCW carbon fiber dash, MC40 floor mats, red paint with white roof, driving lights, red and black seats, and I'm sure more things I am forgetting. The JCW package on that was head, pulley and a tune I believe. There was also what many call the stage 2 JCW kit that includes the former items and airbox and larger injectors. The airbox is easy to see and the injectors are easy to spot with a flashlight. They are blue. I have an MC40, but the previous owner painted it solid black. Didn't paint the door jambs or under bonnet though. Whats so funny is a guy at a shop that was doing some repairs on it commented on how the paint job was a really neat custom job, because the red door jambs matched the seats and the rest of the car also matched the black in the seats. He didn't realize it was a former red car painted black, but I really do like the black and since the seats are red and black, it looks acceptable.I bought mine about a month ago for 8000 but it had 100,000 miles on it. My wife has a 2010 S Camden model and after driving it a few times, I had to have me a new toy, so I bought this one. I think you would really enjoy the car.
finally had time to take a test drive in this '04 JCW. Was surprised to find it does not have cruise control, or if it does, I can not find it. Car seems really clean, runs well. It has been a while since I test drove Mini S , but this one did not seem to be much more powerful that an "s" model. Wondering if I may be better off with a 2005 or 2006 JCW instead of this limited edition. Does anyone know if Cruise control is available on a JCW model? Not sure why it is not on this one.
the car does not have cruise control. Darn, this may be a deal breaker. I really like the car, but the thought of a long drive with cruise, may be enough for me to look for something else. I doubt that it could be easily added.
Some of the 2004 MCS did have cruise. The specific car you are looking at is a Monte Carlo 40th anniversary edition, which did not have cruise. The JCW on the earlier models was just an added package by either the port or dealership. If this one has the full JCW package including airbox and injectors, you should be able to tell a huge difference in power from a similar year S. My 2004 MCS MC40 has the full JCW package and from my understanding rates at approx 210 horses. My wifes 2010 MCS is rated at about 172 which I believe is similar to the 2004-2006 MCS. On the butt dyno, both cars seem very responsive and quick, hard to tell a difference. But on a remote stretch of road, we have found the difference in the two to be night and day. My 2004 JCW will flat run off and leave the 2010 MCS like its standing still. I was looking at a 2009 JCW MINI, but really liked the supercharger better for the more linear powerband. I have owned many turbo cars in the past and just wanted something different for a change. Plus, its really hard to beat that supercharger whine. I am now hoping to find a lower mileage 2006 JCW MINI in the future as from my understanding, those are considered by many to best the best year of the supercharged MINI's. Any way you look at it, JustaCooper, MCS, or MCS JCW, they are all a blast to drive. We own one of each and even the base MINI is really fun to drive and quite peppy around town. Wish you luck in your quest.

I wonder if it is possible that this car is a real MC40 and does not have the JCW engine mods? The sticker that identifies the JCW tune kit is missing, the injectors are not blue, and I. Heard that is a way to tell they are the JCW ones. I have test driven a lot of MC S and just never ended up buying one, and this car just did not seem to have any more power. Could someone actually create a fake MC40 by adding all the stickers? I guess I will have to see if I can get a dealer to run the VIN and let me know.
I think where you are getting confused is the car you are looking at is a real MC40. This means its just an S with a JCW carbon fiber dash. That was one of the parts of the MC40 package. People get confused when they see the JCW dash and think its a JCW engine package. Again, this was a option on the MC40 just as it was for the standard S. With the little research I have done, it seems about 1/2 of the MC40's were fitted with the JCW engine package. So in essence, the MC40 was not a performance package as far as the engine goes. Exactly the same as a MCS. You can go into Google and type in MINI COOPER MC40 and pull up several articles explaining the equipment the car came with. But again, the JCW engine package was a package option that you could elect to add. Hopefully this will clear it up for you as sometimes it can get confusing looking at the dash.
Cevans, thanks for the info. That does clear it up. The dealer selling this car (this is not a Mini dealer)has it listed as having the JCW engine mods, but I do not think it has them. I could not figure out how that could be, now I understand. Guess I'm going to look around for an '05 or 06 JCW car and see what I can find. Sure glad I was able to find this out BEFORE I bought this car.
