Doubt it will get louder. How is the sound compared to the stock exhaust?

All of the OEM exhausts (including JCW) are relatively quiet compared to aftermarket. From what I've read in this forum, the dealer tuning kit exhaust is actually louder (and more highway drone) than the factory JCW exhaust.

Any comment on the sound quality? Anyone care to post a clip? How does the power increase feel?

I have had mine for 2 years now, it does not appear to be getting louder to me.

I have the Stage 1 exhaust and it sounds great. It is a little louder and deeper than the stock S exhaust. There is no drone with the exhaust IMO. I drove 2000 miles to Vegas and back and the exhaust note never bothered me once, as a matter of fact, It would not hurt it to be a little louder....

I have a factory '11 JCW hatch. I was disappointed in the exhaust note and minimal pops and burbles. It did get a little louder and a few more p&b's after 1,000 miles. Still didn't get it--for me. Had the resonator removed. WOW!! Now the car sounds like a MINI on steroids. If you are a little shy I would avoid removing the resonator. Actually for $40 it is one of the best/most noticeable mods I have done--and that my friends, is from my experience with a lot of cars over the years.

I shouldn't get ridiculously loud but it might get a little bit louder because some of the packing m burn off. But if it is to the point where it sounds like a can full of bees you might have an ehaust leak. Or it might just be you are getting used to it and it just sounds louder when it really isn't

While I had it on mine stayed pretty consistent in terms of noise, not really loud but louder then stock. Other cars I have worked on are about the same.

Other engine mods can have an effect on the exhaust resonance and drone too.

Stage 1 exhaust doesn't have the rear resonator.

louder exhaust

As more mile are driven, the packing insulation in the muffler/resonator will deteriorate. Thus the exhaust noise increases. If you want to speed up that process, stick your hose in the exhaust pipe for a few seconds after washing you car. The packing will definitely deteriorate faster.

My Gen 1 JCW exhaust did finally get louder (pre-header) and sounded so much better but, it didn't happen until sometime after the 90k mark.

As a side note I don't know about the Gen 2 cars but the Gen 1's sound sweet with the JCW exhaust combined with a header.

Has anyone tried re-installing the rear resonator that was removed when the tuning kit was installed to see if that will quiet it back down. Mine is the Clubman S and it's not that loud, but I'm thinking of trying it.

Mine doesn't really have any drone, unless you are going uphill. You can hear the exhaust everytime you step on the gas though. I'm 50 and just don't need to draw a lot of attention to myself when I'm driving it.
The kit does add a lot more power, but you will loose 3-4mpg.
