Self install JCW
Self install JCW
Hi!
Did someone ever self installed his JCW engine kit? I want to buy it, install it, and get the car programmed at the dealer after. Will they want to program it? Is the JCW certificate needs to be signed by the dealer?
Thanks !
Mart

Yeah, this is my obsessive-compulsive disorder problem...
So far I was able to buy wheels (and kept the original S-lite in the shed) and install an Alta CAI (and keep the original one in the shed).
All other things I got for the Mini (gauges, ipod adapter, alarm) are original from BMW.
I got for Christmas from my girlfriend a 15% V2 Alta pulley. I can't get myself to install it even if I really want the extra power. But it's not BMW.
So I'm looking for the JCW kit. I have the experience and tools to install it myself, I'm just wondering if people did that before...

well since you already have an intake, your going to get what with the kit?... half an exhaust, and a 'tune' software?
You could get an Accessport (less money/more power), and the dealer will never know it was on the car as you can just change tunes on your own.
Exhausts are just sound on these cars (some advertise like 8hp at a million RPM lol)
Sounds like your after the tune, and you can get more for probably half as much cash!
In my opinion the only things JCW worth having are 1. a factory JCW engine (upgraded turbo ect.) and 2. Body kit / other 'looks' items
Just my $0.02

No turbo's on gen 1 R53 MINI's.
The R53 JCW kit includes....
Head
Supercharger
Exhaust
Intake
Injectors
Tune
FWIW you can meet of beat the power of the JCW kit for a lot less money than the kit costs.

Installing the JCW kit is just more time consuming rather than difficult. If you want a kit let me know I can get you one, and we'll be happy to pass on any tips when you go to install it.
