Replacement front rotors

Like another poster last year I got a quote of $1100 to replace my four rotors and pads. Insane. I just laughed and walked out.

Looking at TireRack and speaking with a tuner, OEMs cost a lot. I track 5-6 times a year and tend to eat up the rotors pretty good using aggressive pads. The only non-OEM front rotors for the JCW/R56 seem to be Centric or DBA slotted. I've cracked DBAs within one track day, although those were slotted and drilled. I'll never do that again--the pad material filled the holes and vents making the rotors go nuclear. Has anyone had experience with the Centric rotors for your fronts?

I know my MINI guy installs mostly centric rotors...says his wife tracks her car a few times a year on them, no problems on her car or from the ones installed on his customer's cars....pretty cost effective too. (Mostly 50/52/53 I would assume as so few r-56 are out of warranty) I would assume that there would be similar results with the JCW brakes too.

TireRack does offer Cryo treated Centric rotors too..not sure if JCW ones are available....but the cryo treating from TireRack is pretty cheap considering the supposed benefits.

Zimmerman rotors and EBC rotors are pretty good too....both are sold at a premium price closer to or above OEM though....

At 70K miles I was faced with similar question. I required a brake flush and was looking at new pads. So I opted for the JCW Sport Brake Kit at $750.00 + labor. It included new front JCW Calipers (R56) - rotors and updated rear pads. The new brake fluid used by InSkip MINI also included a two year waranty on parts and labor.

Nice kit, maybe heavy for some but there is plenty of braking power and even more in reserve. And I doubt I wll have any issues locating brake pads, or finding wheel rims to fit over this brake kit.

I had some custom pads already made for Time Attack and they are much more consistent on the bite. I'm excited to see how these rotors work on the Brembo's. If they can hang on the Grand Am cars , they will last for quite some time on a street/track car

Any teasers on what makes them so great? Are they low carbon, high copper, cryo treated? Perhaps made of unobtanium!?

Zippy - I think you got your elements mixed up. Don't you mean "cantafordium"?

Can't wait to see these!

I've been using the Centrics with no problems so far.
