"Cold Start" issue... JCW cars affected?

I was wondering if the current crop of JCW cars have been afflicted with this issue as well, thinking that maybe some of the internals that have been swapped out may have precluded it from the dreaded "cold start" issue.

Anybody out there know of a R56 MINI JCW with the problem?

(Kind of expensive insurance, if it has been immune....)

The JCW isn't released till July 14th so nobody knows yet whether it's been affected or not.

what is this "cold start issue"? I have a 2007 may April build MCS and NEVER had a problem with the engine or engine noise!, and we had a cold winter here in Cleveland. I feel this problem is being blown out of proportion. Has there been any reports of mass failures on MCS engines??!! Didnt think so.

I really think you should do some research before stating that this issue is being blown out of proportion. From some videos, it sounds like the car is being run without oil. That's how loud it gets. If someone was trying to sell me a car that sounded like this on start up, I would run away from that person.

Oh, I think I have it now, ................ the 09's are the first factory JCW's of the R56, all the other JCW's out there are either R53's or the stage 2 JCW's (Dealer added)

IOW, there are no factory JCW's in the o7's or 08's.

Right?

I do know that people who have had the dealer-installed JCW kit added have also reported having the cold start issue.

Apparently a software update is in the works to fix the problem.

The JCW has the same motor...just an upgraded ECU (mostly for response), exhaust, and intake so "if" you have one of the cars that makes the noise the JCW would be exactly the same since the JCW does not have a different motor.

Good news is that it's "noise" so far no damage has been reported and engines have been sent into MINI for analysis from what I have read on the issue.
