just airfilter housing, exhaust, and ecu. labor is extra....2hr x $100/hr.
Total = $2300.
If aftermarket for those three components cost about $1500 installed, then the OEM route sounds very attractive.

nope... just the performance kit.

That said the whp is 189, but everything else said 191. Not that that's a huge difference, but what the heck? I know that everyone says that MINI's HP numbers are always lower than they really are. I wonder if this is the case. I still want it though (but it will probably have to wait until my tax return ) and I want to get a few bolt-ons with it to make at least 200hp... not a track car, but quick around town

The power ratings are at the crank not the wheels ...

141 kW = 189.1 HP = 191.7 PS (metric horsepower)

I thought this was interesting:

"The primary difference between the Euro kit we've reported on before and the kit to be sold Stateside is the exhaust manifold. Apparently, U.S.-spec vehicles are already equipped with the new exhaust plumbing, making the addition to the kit irrelevant."

emtrey: I sure don't. Sorry! Butt dyno (and real dyno) are huge. But I can't quantify. I will see what I can do. Maybe a good G-tech would give a nice before and after.

RobinCasady" That might also explain why USDM cars seem to dyno higher than EUDM cars even though we have a second catalyst.

MINIAC: That is a EU car in that photo. Wonder if the US kit is different. Do we gather that the tips are re-used from the stock? Also, can't be much better flow with that size plumbing. Must be less baffling in the muffler.

My two cents is that if someone has this installed, then adds things like the ALTA Downpipe, Cat-back and intake the results must be amazing. If we make the assumption that the ECU increases boost and timing, that would help even further with the larger ALTA parts. Or this may all be a complete ruse and it is more like a sound kit that they offered for the std. car. KEEP IN MIND I AM NOT POO POOING the JCW kit. (Heck I have half the interior options on my car or coming!) And any dealer option that is only (yes I said only in reference to teh R53 kit) $2100 isn't that bad. I hope they offer the ECU tuning to folks separate from the rest of the kit. Very interesting stuff no matter what!

My concern is seeing a chart on JCW's site that indicates that the JCW kit generates less horsepower than the stock engine at anything below 4000rpm.

If so, is it really worth it, even for the spirited driver, to gain a little more torque and a few high end hp?

My 2 cents is that if I drop $2100 plus install on a "factory" intake, exhaust, and ECU, I'm not then gonna go drop another grand on Alta stuff to replace the things I just bought.

Even if it significantly improved the power of the JCW kit alone?
