JCW kit - is it uber expensive??

Hey guys,

I was wondering about the total cost (including installation) of the JCW aero kit. It seems NAMers really don't recommend getting the hyper-sport kit but I must say, an MCS with the JCW kit kicks a**.

Did anyone get a discount or something? Or do peeps recommend going along the after-market route? Thanks!

Are you talking about the aero kit, the sports suspension, or the engine mods that are not yet available?

There have been some reports of problems with the aero kits not getting installed at the VDC, causing delivery delays, or color not matching.

The engine kit costs $2000 plus installation according to the Motoring Files site.

Rather than looking like everyone else, I'm gonna wait to see what after market has to offer.

Dealer sold me my kit unpainted and boxed up for $1600. They got it very quickly, but that may have been because I had ordered it when I ordered the car. They quoted an additional $1600 to paint and fit it, but I'm a hard headed DIY guy so I decided to tear apart my new car, paint the kit myself and fit it.

I would NOT recommend this to anyone but the most hardcore. In fact I took lots of photo in preparation to write a DIY article, but with the benefit of hindsight, I didn't think I wanted to encourage anyone not very confident with their skills. If you pay someone to paint it for you and they do a good job with color matching it, then fitting it is not rocket science. But it is time consuming, and you may end up making some extra trips to the dealer for some spare clips.

I think most folks will be best served paying the dealer to pull it all together.

Lots of pics here of my kit before, during and after assembling and fitting it.

I thought the kit cost $1600? Or is that price inclusive of installation charges?

My dealer quoted me $15XX for the entire kit, unpainted and uninstalled. I wanted just the side skirts and was told it would be $1100

The JCW Aero Kit [in primer] for the R56 is $1276 without shipping from Classic MINI's Parts Dept. The primed part # for the MCS non-PDC is #51-19-0-418-202.

Many dealers are quoting $2200-$2600 JCW aero installed with painting. MINI's own kit is butt ugly.

My dealer quoted a price of $2500 for the JCW aero kit which would be installed at the Spartanburg VDC (or VPC). Is that in the ballpark of what you guys paid for the kit?

I'd like to just get the ECU part of the kit done to my car, was anyone able to do this on the R53's when they had an exhaust/intake mod already

R53s were supercharged. Call your parts dept. I doubt you can just get the ECU.

I was ambivalent on the hypersport package but after seeing rigby and Impaccto's car...I'm sold. For what its is, with the sports suspension thrwon in, it is very reasonable. Change my order, and added hypersport. Thanks for the pics!!!!

Could someone please confirm this? I don't want to get ripped by my dealer.

My dealer is charging $2300 including labor, so that seems about in the right ballpark.

Alright, I just received a quote for the JCW aero kit for $2170 (including labor charges) which seems awesome. But the dealer is about 700 miles away. I think I'll go ahead with the VDC option for $2500.

Btw, the JCW Aero kit has the "Works" door sills, right? Are they illuminated??

The one I've seen did, but they didn't appear to be illuminated. I didn't order the kit myself, this was just one that I saw in the showroom (and it looked BEAUTIFUL!). I would have ordered the kit myself but it was just too expensive for me to justify.
