OK I give up - how do you get the parking light bulbs out?

I bought a pair of orange 194's to replace the white OEM parking light lamps, and I got the cover off the rear of the lamp assembly after a bit of doing, but the light's not visible after removing the wiring harness. Plus, the only contacts on the harness after removal are two tiny square holes (labeled "1" and "2") that in no way match the 194 bulb.

When I reconnected the harnesses, the lamps illuminated, so I'm assuming that the actual wedge-base bulbs are in a holder inside the assembly somehow... the question is: how do I extract the current white bulb and replace it with the orange? Unlike the turn signal assembly, the parking lamp fixture doesn't feel like it rotates out...

I really should buy a full service manual, huh?

They are removed by twisting counter clockwise with or without the harness attached.

Its incredibly easy to access/change your parking light bulbs, especially if you have a small hand. Reach directly behind the light and twist the entire unit a 1/4 turn, then just pull directly out.

You can give yourself more room by taking the turn signal assembly out first. The trouble with the parking light is that it takes a lot of force to twist (at least in my car), and difficult to get a good grip.

I got it out... It DID take a surprising ammount of force to twist it out (more than I would have applied if I hadn't KNOWN for sure that was the way to do it). The car looks SO much better with orange running lights I think.

Thanks, guys!

PS- I found that REPLACING the lights was more difficult than removing them for some reason. It's indeed a tight fit and removing the turn signals really does help, if anyone ever tries this.

RallyMini, love the amber lights!
ImagoX, that is a sweet shot of your MINI on the bridge. Definitely a 2007 calendar entry, I'd say.

Oh and everyone on this thread is wrong about extracting the parking light bulb...The proper procedure is:
1. Remove the front bumper
2. Go to Autozone or Pep Boys or whatever. Buy parking light and turn signal lamps so you can replace everything now.
3. Realize that the parking light has a simple "twist and pull" disconnect, and that the bumper does not need to be removed.
4. Reinstall front bumper.
5. Sneak away and hope no one saw you go through steps 1-4!

Thanks for saying so, Dave and Rally. I submitted it, but I hope to have better pics by the cut-off date.

I gussied it up a bit for the contest... if only I didn't have to run a front plate... Think I'll pop it off and 'Shop the holes next time:

I want someone to call my car "cute"... I dare 'em.

cant you just shop the plate? With a MINI it's generally easy to copy part of that middle grille and paste it over the plate...

Not to be a further trend setter...but notice that I'm from ohio as well and my car has no front plate hint hint
