Did my own Bonnet Stripes!!!

Wow, it feels great to make my Mini "look" more like a Mini myself and save big bucks!

I bought a pair White Gloss 5" with Chrome Accent stripes for $13.99 + $6.00 shipping on eBay from a great seller called Mighty Stripes. They came with full instructions and squeegie
Highly reccomended

I just got some shots at sunset this evening and I will post 'em ASAP.

Oh BTW, the dealer wanted to charge me $170.00 to apply em, yeah right. I did it for $19.99

Aesthetic Creation's stripes are very good quality. My boot stripes look better than my OEM bonnet stripes...

FLannel, take the Mini emblem off for bonnet stripes? Are you putting on Viper-style stripes or something? Fot the classic ones, they cdon't come anywhere close...

Is there a website for Aesthetic Creation's stripes? I need to replace mine because the previous owner took a rock in one of them. I wanted to get something a little different. I like th looks of some of them on Ebay, but the thickness scares me. Most run under 4 mils and they will end up needing to be replaced with time. They all are quoting 5 to 7 years. I would like something a little more permenent.

TIA,

Mark

Not meaning to offend any of the vendors here, but this is very high quality, wet application 3M product and very thin. I am impressed how professional this product looks. Anyway, everyonme wants to get the best they can get for the money, right?

Have ever hung wallpaper? Close to the same thing. It's wet so you have a short window to get it right, unlike with a decal. Smooth out the bubbles and you're set.

You have ever applied copper foil to the edge of stained glass?
Same thing again. After the bold stripe is on, the accent stripe goes directly over the edge of bold stripe. So, if you are good with your hands, you can do this.

I like to share when things like this are a success. I have a friend with a Silver MCS that wants me to put a pair on her baby. Maybe I could do this professionaly

PB,

Great to hear that you made the plunge to do it yourself.

The hardest part is convincing yourself that you can do it.

This weekend I went to a sign shop and bought a big sheet of white vinyl and used it to cover my sunroof. It looks great, cost me very little, and I had a great time doing something myself.

Mark,

Aesthetic Creations can be found in the vendor directory on this site (on the left hand side of this page).

If you must have something more permanent than a 5-7 year vinyl, you will probably want to have the stripes painted on, but that will be a lot more expensive than several sets of stripes replaced over the next 20 years.

Flannel Hippie: you will have to add your own double sided tape when you re-install the badge.

it's more like tinting windows than anything else.
if you need more time, wet your fingers, lift the
film and spray more soap solution. that's all.

nothing like wall papering, imho.

I'm sure other vendors have similar quality - there's no such thing as TOO MANY options for a buyer. I can only speak to the quality of these stripes, however, and I was very pleased.

Good luck!

Thanks for the website. I remember seeing some Bonnet and boot stripes that started out black and faded to checks. If I could find them again, or do you think that these guys could make them?

Thanks again,

Mark

As far as I can tell, he can make anything you can think up - I've seen a few people at meets that had stripes and graphics that he did for them custom. he has an email address on his site, and he usually gets back in a day or two if you have an idea you want to get a quote for.

Good luck and make sure to let us know how they turn out!

It does feel good doing something so simple and NOT paying someone else to do it.

My husband kept coming in and out of the garage saying "I never would have tried that myself". It really was like hanging a wallpaper border! It was fun.

Welcome to MOD enablers... After doing stripes, things like a pully install or DIY installing lowered springs seems like child's play. Just read a few How-To's and start jacking the motor right out of the car - how hard can it be, right?

Seriously, MODding MINIs is like tattoos... the first one is a bit scary and usually hurts a little, but after that all you can see are OTHER cool tattoos, and eventually you end up with a second... and a third... and a fourth...

Next thing you know, you've got a Supercharger on your back.

Welcome to da family!

I have never tinted windows but I have hung my share of wall paper.
It was the closest thing I could compare it to.

Yup. Mike at AC can make you any stripes you want. All my graphics still look great and are holding up fabulously.

PB, congrats on having the guts to do it, AND for pulling it off!

I will but that has created another problem. The designs are unlimited and I will really have to think!

Boo-freaking-hoo.

I love my stripes on my car... It really establishes that "Mini" feel - sporty but not obnoxious. Have fun dreaming up your own!
