Changing all dash lighting to blue

this may be a ridiculously stupid question, but is it possible to change all the dash lights to blue instead of the orange? i don't know anything about workign on cars, but i thought this would be cool if it were possible.

thanks.

It has been done. There is an extensive thread on here somewhere that outlines an entire project of this nature. Use the search function on this site and you should be able to find it, along with other threads on the same subject.

Man, that looks FANTASTIC. Can you imagine that coupled with all the interior LEDs swapped out as well, plus some subtle, dim footwell LEDs and maybe a few cool blue puddle lights?

I wonder why this only works with UK cars?

Yea, I wouldn't mind my dash being blue.

Wow....lol, that is a LOT of work....but the result is awesome. Does anyone know if I can pick up a used tac/speedo somewhere? Then I could have a stock "spair" and be able to work on the custom one when I have time, so I could still be able to drive my car and read the speed, etc.

And how do you change out the needle colors? I would love to do my back blue with white needles...umm.

Polizei, Google "used auto parts" or "online auto salvage" or something similar and start calling or emailing. I'd imagine that any car not completely destroyed in a crash would still have salvagable gauges. I actually was thinking about that route myself... it would be nice to wire everything up and then just swap 'em out. Not sure how you'd TEST them without ripping everything apart, though...

Well, you would have to test them, but I'm talking about how you wouldn't need to take anything apart from the stock plates, ie. the needles, etc. No "prying" required....so less chance of messing something up!

So you would essentially pop off the old ones, and test the new one. Now the question is, do you have to do this for EACH light? Because that would be a PAIN.

Edit* Anyone try something like this?

Ah crap, I forgot about the milage and everything....I guess that throws that out the window!

And where can you buy the LED's, and how many are needed?

I believe the mileage is stored somewhere in the car, and is independent of the actual speedometer unit. Therefore, installing a different speedometer would not effect your mileage or any of that stuff.

Sweet, I'll see if I can find a tac somewhere cheap....I can't believe that one on ebay is $150! What a load of crap! And if I do find one, plug it in, find out the milage stays "wrong", will I be able to then put my stock one back in and will that keep my milage the same?

And is there any feedback on how much the lights are?

Thanks!

Just to let you know, you will have to change every LED. And also, keep in mind that the rest of the lights in the car will be a different color if you don't change those as well .

Your prayers have been answered per motoringfile today for the 07 press release

optional “illumination pack” with the ability (via one of the overhead toggle switches) to change the dash and ambient lighting colors from Orange to Blue, and various colors in between.
