How to remove 06 downtubes?

Has anyone solved this dilemma? The 06' downtubes are a bit different from the 05' and below. Anyone figure out an easy way to remove yet?

Why do you want to remove them??

When I installed Ian Cull's auto-up circuit with track mode I took the torx screws out of the downtubes. I couldn't pull the tubes out, but was able to push them down an inch or so. That enabled me to lean the tops of the tubes outward. It seems to me if you need the tubes out it's remove console then push them down & out the bottom.

You have to remove the whole center console. I think to do this, you need to remove the two screws in the base of the cupholders, and then you have to remove the ring around your shifter. Than, reach underneath and push the mirror adjustment piece up and out. Remove the wires to that, and underneath, you will see two more screws. That is as far as I am to figuring it out. Will continue working on it tommorow.

That sounds just about right. Once you have the 4 phillips screws removed from the base trim piece, slide it straight back, and the to the side, and slide the downtubes out the bottom of the base trim piece. I tried this the other day (getting ready for a radio install this weekend), and it was pretty easy to do.

Getting the base piece slid all the way forward again (and under the lip of the other trim piece) took a little patience though.

'06 downtubes are "fattened" at the base so they can't be pulled up from above like the older design. But as mentioned you might be able to push them out of the way - depending what you need to do ...

05/05 has the fattened down tubes. I just moved them out of the way enough to get my ipod mount on the stereo screws.

once you get all the screws out of the center console and the down tubes lift the center console and pull the base of the down tubes so they pop out and are loose..once they are loose you can lift the center console enough that you can slide them out though the bottom
