BFP vs. M7 intake? Scoop safety?

Yeah, yeah, I know I'm beating a very dead horse skeleton, but as of yet I haven't seen dyno performance for either the M7 AGS or the BFP intake setup. The M7 looks interesting, and sounds great from the movie clip they have, but I'm really starting to lean towards just the BFP scoops with Y-tube thing and an ALTA CAI system--cheaper than both, and according to the Webb site, better than either.

Is there proof?

My second question, and the more important question is this: Are the ALTA/BFP and other intakes using those "buckets" with the mesh vents under the wipers safe? I unfortunately happen to live in Ohio, where we see lots of snow and rain. Am I going to have to worry about hydrolock? I've heard a few things from a few people, and I'm not disbelieving, but I just want to be 100% positive before I drop cash just to destroy my engine and have MiniUSA tell me I'm going to have to pay because it wasn't stock.

I noticed that several people are saying that the air pressure in that area is pretty low. Does that mean that water probably isn't going to be flushing into that area? What about snow? Am I going to have to find foam inserts or something during the winter? Swap intakes?

Hell, with all the minor crap I've been having happening to my Mini in under two years, I'm looking really hard at trading it in for a Z3 M coupe....

No problem with either BMP or Alta have one of each on our 2 Minis. We live in the snow belt.If you are driving through standing water at a high rate of speed you might get a splash of water into box area.Just exercise caution after all its not an suv with 2 ft ground clearance.

No problems with the Alta whatsoever. I live in the snow belt in New York State, and see lots of snow and rain. I have never had even a hint of a problem, even in the heaviest monsoon downpours...

Buy with confidence.

IMO the M7 scoop looks too extreme. Check with EFI Motorsports at 562-424-3378. They are working on a really cool looking carbon fiber scoop.

It would be interesting to see what happens if you parked outside long enough for the aftermarket intake box to get full of drifting snow...

pooch - does your car have the foam in the cowl intakes? That could keep snow out.
