I'm guessing from all the discriptions it'll look alot like this spoiler thats very popular on 92 Civic HB's and which i love. Except this one will probably be even more functional.

duck-bill spoilers look great on hatchbacks. i dont think mini's really go fast enough to worry about downforce. top speed what 135ish. rear downforce on a fwd car what are we really trying to achieve.

if it is for looks solid duck-bill hatch wing like they offer on a civic hatch would be great.

i am interested to see how this looks, and i am also surprised that no aftermarket mfgs make a spoiler for the mini.. except carbon stock replacements.. wonder a bit if a civic HB spoiler would be a close fit with some modification/body filler.

Arqray has probably the best looking spoiler for the MINI. That thing is sick I just wish that there was an importer or other manufacturer her is the US that would be willing to take the same avenue that Arqray did. I know that there would be a huge desire for a wing like that since it is very close to the GP wing with little differences that make it flow a little better on the rear of the car. Just my $.02

Ahhh a common misconception, you don't need to be going 160mph for aero to work correctly if the part is designed correctly. Now this peice won't be going through a windtunnel i can imagine but i'm guessing these boys know a thing or two about aero. Remember that Audi and VW (yes same company, i know) had to put Small spoilers on the turbo beetle and TT to stop unsafe conditions at speeds at low as 90mph.

So if this is done correctly i can imagine they can probably provide a little bit of downforce at around 80-85 with the small wicker bill.

Honestly though i would be getting it mainly for the looks because my driving still needs YEARS or work before i can put proper aero to work .

Also the link i left in the quote is the best looking one, i love that look on a 92 Civic HB

dont forget about the 5.0!!

lol giant wings..i have been told they needed these for braking purposes...the back end would be come so light in a hard brakin situation the car would spin...my friend has one at something like 2600lbs with >300hp 350ft/lbs

That is the principle...with varying sizes of wicker-bill, we're shooting for effective downforce as low as 60mph...

I don't know about that ... I've had ours above 150 mph on the German Autobahn more than once.

and who's wind tunnel are we going to be testing this new design in.

i say its for looks, you can talk all you want about downforce at certain speeds, etc etc, but if its not in a tunnel hooked up to a computer everything is speculation.

oh yeah btw who distributes the argray spoiler in the US. i want it. that is a sweet *** spoiler!!!

my one complaint about my mini is that its rear end looks blah. the front and the sides look awesome, but it looks like they just stopped styling the rear. that spoiler would round it off i think and make the rear tie into the great front styling a bit more.

According to the Arqray website, Sector 111 is their American distributor. I contacted Sector 111 in February 2006 about bring some of the Arqray MINI products to the US including the wing. They stated quite frankly:

"The price is the challenge. The US market generally freaks at the higher prices demanded for Japanese products. The quality is just so much better with these bits that it is justified"

Without enough demand and a weak dollar, I doubt we will see any quantity of their products here any time soon.

For what it's worth:

I work at GM Advanced Design and have spent over 20 years in this business both here and at Ford. During these years, I have spent much time in both scale and full size wind tunnels working closely with aerodynamisists learning the ins/outs of what has been learned in the last century. I think I might know what I'm doing

Yes...but...I just don't have the suspension travel for the loaded trip down with such fat tires so they're not coming on this ride...I'll be mounting 215/45-17 MXs instead

Sound decision Sid, you did not have a lot of room under there.
