(Sigh...) maybe some day...

Same here. I've wanted them since before I even got my '06.

I love my OEM clear/white tail lights. I think getting the red off the DS makes it look really clean. Nothing to take attention away from all those checkers! I also just switched out the side arch markers to smoked lenses. For such small things I think it was a huge upgrade!

My 2005. $16 reverse light from the MINI dealer and $3 for the quick connect and wire.

Are those the black framed lights or the carbon fiber? If they're black, WHERE did you find them?

Okay, I will give away the secret. The company that sells these on EBAY is wholesale-industries

I'm not sure if this is allowed, but here is a link to one of their auctions. I have bought 3 sets of these lights from them with no trouble. The reason I have bought so many pair is I had a pair in my old Cooper, a pair in this Cooper, and I had a spare set. The quality of the lights is awesome. When I have time I will do a walk through for the reverse light retro fit.

I like the old school look and these lights seem to give the car a '50s flair.I love them.

I've been trying to get plain black lights from this eBay vendor since September and he's not had them in stock, but if you want titanium or carbon fiber finish then you're in luck.

Sweet, thanks for the link. And they're only 35 bucks! Very nice. But yes, you will have to post something about the reverse light retro fit, 'cause I can't seem to reason how the new reverse light would work, if it's hooked up to where the rear fog is supposed to be, without some serious re-wiring.

Note that the $35 lights have a $20 shipping charge.... That's still better than the $200-$250 price I've seen on other sites, but it DOES increase the cost of the tail lights quite a bit. Personally I loathe sellers that charge inflated shipping charges, but in this case it might be OK. Honestly, if BadMINI hadn't used this seller in the past, I'd be very wary of the super-low price, and the only reason I'm considering a pair is because of his confirmation that they actually work.

Yeah, I did notice that shipping price, but you're right, it's still quite cheap.

Also, I found this: http://myminiparts.com/proddetail.php?prod=MMBUL
Pop this baby in and hook up the new tail lights, and you're done!! My list of mods keeps getting longer and longer...

Check your dealership first - the part seems to be less than $20 from the parts department and the wire splice kit is only a few bucks.

Is the wire splice kit also at the dealership? And would going this route require me to cut/splice any wires myself? My attraction to the linked kit is due to its ease of installation - I'd be willing to pay extra to be able to just plug it in and go.

I'm pretty sure thart even with their "simple" kit, you'll need to identify the wires leading to the backup lights in the OEM wiring loom and then tap into them (someone that's used this kit please correct me if I'm wrong). Wire taps are like $4 at Radio Shack, but yeah, you'll have to "manually" hook some wire into that tap if you go that route. Whether that's worth the extra $10 or $15 (with shipping) is up to you, but I can see the appeal of having something "guaranteed" to work that comes with some form of dicumentation (not sure how good the dox are, but I assume the unit comes with SOMETHING).
