IMO the MC40 is not to be touched. The decals are there to commemorate the victory of the rally in 1964, bla bla, everybody knows the story. I gotta admit it does look good, but to buy it just cuz its limited ed. and has that plate inside it, i dunno, seems like a waste. But it does look cool, and would have looked not muchdiferent if you got a CR/W regular cooper s, also a lot cheaper. But whatever lol .Take care.

This comes up all the time. "Why did you even buy an MC40?" Simple - they had one S in stock (and no other new MINIs) and let's just say I didn't pay what was on the window sticker. I had the opporunity to finally get an MCS at the time and this MC40 had 95% of the options I wanted if I were to order (at the time there was a 4 month wait). I have been able to fully enjoy this MCS instead of waiting.

The magnetic "37" door panels "burned" my clearcoat to the point where the paint had to be wet sanded to correct it. The rest of the vinyl decals were cheesy IMHO. I plan to have better vinyl graphics (than OEM) made to commemorate the 1964 Monte Carlo Rallye. Stay tuned. The stripes are just the beginning.

I love the unique interior and I don't have any plans to modify it.

Red Baron check this out

I agree that the factory decals on the MC 40 look kind of cheesey (except for the 33 EJB number plate - I even had a custom 33 EJB tag made). I had some custom decals made up in the UK that (I think) are more appropriate for this model. Check it out here:

If you email Bunny at ScreenProMini@aol.com and let her know you want the custom MC40 decals she will take care of you. If you want something a little different she will also make you whatever you want. I don't get any commission but please mention my name.
Let me know if I can help.
Alan
PS I also didn't want to wait the three or four months so I took the MC40 that was coming in to the dealer. Would probably not have ordered the silly little driving lamps so I replace them with these (again more in keeping with the Monte Carlo edition (IMHO).

Do magnetic stripes/numbers hurt the exterior finish? I was planning on purchasing magnetic bonnet stripes for my mcs, and was wondering if they would hurt the finish. Would they, please help, I am looking for a removable and solution for the front stripes.

These have been sold to a NAM member, however, he is selling them again due to selling his '05. I'll dig up the Marketplace post. They were/are in pristine condition.

Nice job. Looks sharp. Are you considering adding more chrome? Intake/vent grilles? I can't add any more to mine--so now I want others to join. Nick

Hey Alan,
I ordered from Bunny and they are on the way. Great people and more than helpful. Thanks for the info on that. And let me know if anything comes up with the JCW seats too!

Im sure you do get it all the time. I can be a **** about stuff like that sometimes, you should check out how pissed i get in one of the off-topic auto threads about a guy who transformed his NSX into a Ferrari F50 body. Still gets me angry . I wish i had the opportunity to get an MC40, if only i waited like a month. I didnt know the price yet, and believe me, i was kicking myself when i found out the price was EXACTLY the same price i paid for my current MCS. GRRRR. Anyways, happy motoring everybody.

FWIW, I am with you on leaving the MC40 alone. Too bad I don't take my own advice . I have done a few mods to my car. Although it can all be returned to stock. (I have kept ALL the stock parts that have been changed out, including the stock shocks, and the body panels that were changed out when I installed a BMW aero kit, you should have seen the service guy when I requested all that back!) Future plans include some JCW seats, if I can ever get them , and the aforementioned decals from ScreenProMini. (thanks again, Alan for the recommendation!) Funny though, I already have a call into Mini Parts to make sure I can order a replacement set of stock MC40 decals for reinstallation after I get done "modding" my car. If, in fact, there is any intrinsic value to owning an MC40 (or any limited edition car for that matter) I want to be able to return it to stock condition when that time arises.

Glad to be of help. I have heard direct from John Cooper that they WILL NOT be selling the seat in the US due to not being approved by BMW.
SOOOO.... I am on the verge of ordering the Sparco Milano Prestige in red. Pitty they don't do two tone but I may take the seat to a local shop and see if they can add black panels to more closely match the MC40.

I am sure you can get the stock decals from the dealer. If you had to have any repairs done you would need them. Same with the special seats.
