I added springs to my trunk shocks months ago. I use it 30 times a day, delivering boxes to customers and going to UPS, FedEX and USPS. Having no rear seats in the GP, means I can carry a surprising amount of stuff Here is a short video I put together

I did this non-performance mod a few months ago too. Best mod for the money. My wife loves it. She doesn't like me calling it the 'Booty Pop' tho.....lol. Seems like it has a double meaning. I still call it the 'Boot Pop' tho. You will love it to. Nice movie & music Mario....lol.

Thanks Coop. It's a dirt cheap mod and makes loading boxes much easier. I'm thinking over a year, it will save me 13 hours of setting boxes down to physically open my boot.

So... where is the the DIY for this mod? Can't figure out what the search terms to use. "Bootie Pop" doesn't get me anywhere but here.

I saw a DIy You Tube about a year ago, but I ended up using different springs for my GP. I will hunt for it. The "Bottie Pop" was the name I came up with. It seemed fitting and cheesy at the same time
I first used these springs, but they became soft after a week, so I suggest the Red spring is the same exact size.

I found the video, but like I said earlier the green work for a week or so, but I went with the Red and they have been perfect. The spring just gives enough kick (about 6") and then the shocks take over and lift the boot up. Easy mod, takes 15 minutes and cost about $10 with shipping

Very cool Mario. I am curious the exact red springs you used. I searched MSC for a bit and couldn't find a red raymond spring with the same specs as the green ones you provided. Also curious how you managed 10 bucks shipped, cause when I price them out it comes to around 23 bucks shipped!

I frequently use my hatch, and it gets covered in crap during the winter. Would love to do this mod and avoid having to manually open it all the time.

The DIY video uses the green, but they become too weak in just a few days. I honestly can't remember the exact cost (but it was $10 or so) because I didn't it so long ago.

That's all I'm looking for is the link to the red springs. I found the green springs on the site mario linked, and it came out to 24ish with shipping for the two

This looks like a good Mod and useful with one exception, how do you keep water from running into the boot when the hatch is opened after running, or parking, in the rain?

It has been a design flaw for both of our MINI's so we open the hatch part way to drain the water and then fully open it. Shame on MINI for doing such a great disservice to it loyal customers.

But your Mod is a good one regardless of what I think about the general design of the hatch

The red one referenced, is that the 2nd one down? I'd be more inclined to try the blue one first, especially for those of us who pop our booty infrequently.

Ordered a blue set for my R58, came to $22.84 shipped to NH.

Do an online search for other threads about this. It is old news. Several months ago, a bunch of people excitedly did this. They then suffered leaking hatch struts because they are not designed to withstand the strain caused by the springs.

No problems what so ever, I ise it several times a day for over 18 months. Other MINI owners are more impressed with the boot pop over most of
Mods.
