X5 Fog Lights on an R56

Hey there,

Does anyone know if these OEM X5 Fog Lights will fit on an R56. I figure even if I have to do a little finagleing with electrical, housing, etc. for $60 it wouldn't be that bad of an option. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

From what I'm told from TRS it looks like they may not work. Although if anyone tries it I'd be interested in knowing how it goes.

Compare the shape and depth of the housings. I don't believe you'd ever get them to fit in the oem position particularly on the left side where the windshield washer bottle is right behind the fog light. Only way to find out for sure is to buy a pair (check their return policy first) and do some brainstorming.

I bought a pair from them and will try to attempt a retrofit in the next week or so. I tested the lights out and the throw is super wide and very bright. Hope I can get it to work! Will update when/if I get them installed.

Took off my bumper last night and attempted to install the X5 fog lights. The light fits perfectly in the hole, but none of the bracket holes line up. Also, the polarity of the oem plug is reversed so I had to dremel out the middle of the connector to install the plug 'backwards'. I was able to zip tie the fog light onto the bumper, but will see if I can come up with a better solution. It's not a heavy piece so zip tie should hold fine. Pics later!

The oem fogs have adjusting screws to aim the fog lights to prevent blinding oncoming traffic. How are you going to fine tune the aim using zip ties? Have you considered fabricating some custom mounting brackets out of sheet metal to use the oem mounting holes?

The X5 fog lights have adjustments in it to fine tuning up and down too. It rotates the reflector inside the housing. I thought about sheet metal but I'll give zip ties a try first.

I hooked the X5 LED fog lights up to the parking lamps and it works initially, but then starts flashing. I added a 194 bulb in parallel on each side and they still flash. Looks like I'll have to wire them up with a relay harness.

This is very interesting. Did you get them to work correctly?

Not yet. I just got my NCS Expert cable so maybe disabling the bulb out check will fix the problem. Time to start learning how to use NCS Expert!

Haven't had time to mess with it. I got my NCS Expert cable, but it wasn't able to communicate with the car. Will try again later when I have time.
