Interior/Exterior Anyone rocking these aftermarket headlights?
Anyone rocking these aftermarket headlights?
I am not a big fan of joey modding headlights and found these and curious if anyone has installed them? They come with a halogen and HID mod with cutoff to keep from blinding oncoming traffic so that's a nice option. I am not a big fan of the halo so I would not activate it.
Just curious if anyone has any experience with them?

I wouldn't recommend those since they fade away on the headlight part. I would say look at different options at this point, such as retrofit projectors.

These look like the ones i saw on ebay awhile back. If i remember correctly they work fine except there is no High Beam "Hold" for it. To have high beams on you have to be pulling the stock and there is no way to have them "always on" for high beams. Someone correct me if im wrong. Other than that i think they are pretty much plug and play. Might pick them up eventually as I never use my high beams in toggle mode.
, only the pull option works. Also the cut off is very very bad, don't buy them, better retrofit or wait for the MINI oficial retrofit kit.
I've used a separate harness with a relay so I don't have a flicker issue like some people report with aftermarket HID kits. However, it is annoying that every time I start the car it tells me both low beams and both high beams are not working, even though I clearly know they do work.
Having said this, I spent about $350 total for my projector retrofit. The factory retrofit costs roughly $1000. I'm not 100% satisfied with what I have, mostly because of the warnings about blown bulbs. The projector cut off isn't ideal, and has a kind of a rainbow effect. But they are dramatically better than the stock halogens.
I did order cancellers for the warnings and once I get them installed I can rework the wiring harness so that the lights stay on with high beams.
All in all, for the cost, they're good. But you have to be willing to be a little creative to make them play nicely with the car, and most people aren't. Also, at the time I ordered my lights, the OEM retrofit kit wasn't even available, so for me it was this or try to build my own with TRS projectors, with which I have no experience. I bought these with the intention of gutting them and using them for a TRS project if they didn't work well for me. As it stands, they work well enough to not have to do that.
I got the new factory retrofit with 25w ballast but the output is very low, like 1800 lumens but better than the ebay headlights, the cut off is not that bad but my other cars with factory xenon looks a lot better. I already disassembly one of the headlights and will upgrade the lens and proyector to use it with 55W ballast and the D2S: OSRAM XENARC 66240 CBI. I'll post pics when it's ready
