Plasti Dip On Tail Lights?

What are your opinions on plasti dipping the tail lights? I like that it's removable, and I also like how it isn't as dark as normal VHT tint. Has anyone done this? Are the lights much dimmer during the day or no? For a $5 experiment I think it's worth a shot. thanks for any replies!

If you spray the plasti-dip too thin it is very hard to get off. If you spray it too thick the light bulb may not shine through enough. Good Luck!

How thick do you think I should go? Will 3 coats come off easy? I was debating 3 coats of the black, then maybe smoke or glossifier on top to thicken it up if needed.

Why dont you Just use smoke? That might darken it sufficiently.

Because the actual tail light smoke isn't removable (well not easily) and the plasti dip smoke isn't black, it's almost like a grey or a matte clear, it's odd.

Yeah, it does look good. They've done it on two different Toyota Tundra with a lift kit at work. It was done by the same company that installed the lift kit, so I have no idea how many coats they've used, but it's pretty thin. Your best bet if you can't find a how-to would be to test it using a piece of plexiglass or something similar until you are pleased with the result.

I found a few videos on youtube, seems like 3 coats of black will do it. I think I'll get the smoke and do a coat or two of that, then do maybe 2 coats of black just to cover the light. I do like the matte black finish of it, it's different.

Black will be dark and unsafe. Use their smoke product to darken the light is you insist of trying to get rear ended. Then use glossifier over it to shine.

But won't that make it grey instead of black? I was thinkin 2 coats of smoke and 2 coats of black. To keep it more transparent but smoked.

It'll make it darker than stock. But yes smoke is more of a grey product.

Buy some Laminex or something, brother. Otherwise, you're just spraying lights with rubber.

Here, try these and let me know how they work...then I'll buy some

I completely forgot about tint film, haha. Maybe I'll just go that route. On a side note, does anyone know how to get rid of the glazing the lights get over time? My left one is almost white, which is why I want to tint them instead of buying a new set.

It's on the tail lights though, the headlight method will work? It just seems like it's on the inside of the light.

I've seen some that were done in the Smoke Plasti Dip that looked good. But I've also heard of people just using the plain black Plasti Dip, but I personally think that would be too dark.

Yeah, after a video I just watched, the black dip is too dark. I found tint film for $10 I'm gonna try out.
