Put the Metal to the Pedal! - great looking pedal kit

Yesterday, at the ALL MINI Car Show, there was a vendor selling these terrific metal pedal kits...
www.bmwpedals.com
They don't show the MINI pedals on the website, but they do have the kits, so email for info. The show special price for the kit was $120, they are a little more if you buy them online. I bought the Union Jack set, of which they have two flag designs, but they also have one that is all metal studs, which look really great.

The kit comes with the hardware and a little screwdriver to pry out the dead pedal if you have an automatic tranny.

Installation took FIVE MINUTES and was so easy! You just need a Phillips screwdriver (smaller head kind) and a little ratcheting wrench or a wrench that fits the little nuts.

Here are the photos:

First, the dead pedal install. Using the little tool, unscrew the top to expose the tiny screwdriver. Then stick the screwdriver under your rubber pedal and pry it out. It comes out easily. Wipe the exposed part with alcohol, peel the red backing off of the tape on the back of the new pedal, and stick it on. Well, that took one whole minute.

Next is the brake pedal. Your factory brake pedal is covered with a rubber top that fits over the metal brake. Wrap your fingers around it and pull. It comes right off. Align the two holes on the center and right, with the two holes on the new pedal cover, put the little screws in, put the little washers on the back, then the nuts, and hold the nuts with the wrench while you screw them in.
Another two minutes gone...

Finally, the easiest of all, the accelerator. Simply wipe down the rubber with alcohol, test for alignment, then peel off the red backing and stick it on. Get it right the first time, because that tape is STRONG!

That's it!! The finished look:

Awesome pedals, Joanie ! But what... no pic of all three of them installed ?

And you do realize, don't you, that with pedals that nice, you will have to detail them monthly to keep them looking great.

We were typing at the same time

I might not have to detail them, I'm a So Cal gal and generally drive barefooted, so they won't get very dirty! Well, except for beach trips. Winnie gets full of sand, poor thing. At least sand can be vacuumed out.

Thanks!

Driving barefoot is such a foreign concept to those of us in the Northeast.

Can't say I'll add that to the list of reasons I some day want to retire to San Diego, but hey, who needs more reasons ?

Well, sometimes you do have to wear real shoes in the winter... but not often. We actually had frost one day last winter. Damn, it was cold.

I remember that ONE day there was a cold spell in southern Cal. Can't say I felt terribly sorry for you folks.

No, we have it pretty good, until fire season comes. Then watch out!

Well, and the earth shakes once in a while. Other than that...

Yes... one of the biggest reasons I'd love to retire there is I'm a huge fan of moderate temperatures and very little humidity. I could get very used to temps in the 60s and 70s most of the time! But yes, the fires are a concern. And I guess there just aren't many places on earth to live that are perfect.

If you stay out of the boonies, away from the edges of the scrub wastelands, and don't live up in the mountains, you're okay.

Mountains and back roads are where we drive our MINIs, under lovely oak canopies, or twisting up and over the mountains only to drop down to the desert floor, where you can see all the way to the Salton Sea. Great places to visit. But live in the city.

Trouble is traffic. It's like a Friday afternoon, almost every freakin' day. Too many people. We shouldn't let anyone else in. Except for you. We'll scoot over and make room for you.

How very sweet of you, Joanie !

And maybe by the time I'm ready to retire and move, the city will thin out a bit. Maybe we can start spreading some false rumors about a rat population about to explode or an impending outbreak of the plague.

Funny you should mention that, our ground squirrels actually do carry plague... but the city keeps it quiet. They gas them in their ground holes every year or two, clandestinely, and pretend like they migrate or something. "Where's all the squirrels, Mommy?" "Oh, they have a nice casa in Mexico where they spend the winter, honey. Come and feed the gulls instead."

We also have jelly fish. They, and the tourists, both like the ocean water just south of the power plant jetty, where's it's all nice and warm. Jelly fish aren't stupid. But sometimes, tourists are.

Yikes... notes to self. Stay out of the water and don't eat the ground squirrels.

Dang it Joanie, you always seem to make my IWANTIWANTIWANT list is just a little bit longer...

Love the union jack, not sure I'm sold yet on the polka dot look of the other pedals though. What was the other flag design you mentioned?

LOL Kirby, I say the same thing about you all the time!! Still have some of your special mods that I want to do!

The polka dots are the standard look, they are actually studs, they look better in person. There were two Union Jack accelerator pedals... one was plainer, and then this one had a little extra detail. Only the accelerator has the UJ, none of the others do. Or you can get all three as polka dots. Didn't see any other patterns at the show. But they say that they will cut a custom pattern... bet that's a pretty penny to have done!

Heehee you just know we're going to get a holier than though smackdown for calling them polka dots!

I see on their website that they have a clear finish option too. Nice.
