Plasti-Dip Happy Feelings!

Ok so, I just plasti-dipped the Cooper emblem (not logo) on my Mini.
Maybe I'm still amazed that it comes in a can, sprays on like paint, dries and then peels off as rubber, but this is the coolest thing ever. It was my absolute first time and the only reference I had was youtube videos as far as technique goes. I think it came out pretty well. Pain in the butt to get the overspray out of the holes between the "OO" "P" and "R" but a toothpick remedied that situation quickly. A lot of people say it looks unfinished or cheap but I guess it's just a matter of opinion. Just thought I'd share that it does in fact work, and I can't wait to do the rest of my chrome!

Nice job! It is amazing how well this stuff works and how forgiving it is. I just did my winter OEM wheels, and they came out nice even though I sprayed them at 40F.

I've plasti-dipped almost everything black on my car, including my roof rack. I love it.

Just for clarification, are the stripes vinyl or PD?

Sorry...stripes are vinyl. The trim pieces are all plastic dip...headlights, grills, gas door, tail light trim, roof rack.

The blackout look is starting to grow on me, I have to say. :-) You gonna black-tape the window trim chrome by chance?

just did some plasti-dipping today, basically had to re-touch the trim pieces on the car....tailight, headlight/washers, gas cap, and front grill.

I've been thinking about PD'ing my hood scoop and door handles, but I'm still debating. Has anyone had experience with either of those?

I plasti-dipped my door handles and well, ehh. They're currently still chrome. The rubber lining around the edge of them made it kind of difficult. It may have been because I didn't leave it long enough/didn't have enough coats, but when I went to peel off the overspray it wanted to lift off of the rubber lining (which I wanted to leave covered) but when I bit the bullet and just let it do what it wanted it started to peel off the main door handle as well.

Also, the key hole on the driver's side was a *****. Wasn't really sure what I wanted to do with it, as I never actually stick the key in there so I taped the circle off but it looked funny as the only part of the door handle that was still chrome.

I definitely am going to tackle the doorhandles again, but not a good first experience.

hmm, ok that's good to know. I'll probably skip the door handles, but maybe I'll try the hood scoop before summer.

I haven't done either one yet, but from what I've heard, it's best to use vinyl for the door handles. The scoop should be fine...a few touch up's may be needed because of its location, but I haven't heard any problems relating to heat. I plan on doing the hood scoop soon. I have to install the MINIFINI black scoop grill, so while the scoop is off, I'm going to plasti-dip it.

I did my scoop this past weekend. I thought it came out okay but I plan on redoing it when it gets warmer. I think the combination of the low temp - probably 45 degrees in my garage - and the slope of the scoop made for a few runs. After the first coat I put a work light for some heat near it and it seemed to work better allowing the runny first coat to even out. with the right temp it should work just fine.

sorry - dont have any good pics yet

Thanks for the input guys. I will most likely wait for the warmer weather to try out the hood scoop, but I have black stripes on the car, so I'm not sure how the PD hood scoop will look with the black stripes.

Also, I think the temp has a huge factor in how the PD looks. It was about 40-45 in my garage yesterday and each coat looked pretty thick and rough. I ended up using a hairdryer to heat the spray can and then dry each piece as I sprayed them. I was hoping it would have turned out better....I might just re-do everything once the weather gets warmer.

I used it con my front grille, scoop. Saddly ran out of plasti dip to finish the headlights and tail lamps.

Not very sure about the scoop, when I get more and paint the surrond of the headlights will compare with my stock blue scoop (I used another scoop I had hehe). And will also take better pictures

Hi P-dippers,I have to ask, are you removing the grill surround before P-D'ing or leaving it in place?
