OutMotoring Gen2 Custom Gauge Face Replacements

I finally have a set of prototypes (black Speedo and Tach replacement faces) here for the Gen2 MINI (R55/56/57/58/59) and I am looking for someone to do a test fit and supply images of the install for a how to as well as some basic written notes about the various steps to install. In exchange for photos and write up I will get a free set of gauge faces (may not be the set sent for evaluation unless they work as they are supposed to and you like the color). This may also require a 2nd set to be made with any changes and would also need to be test fit (again) to confirm fitment/lighting, etc.

The prototype set I have is Black and has the 70 mph at top center with a max spd of 150. I understand at some point MINI changed the 'center' readout and in some cases it is80mph...I have yet to figure out when this change happened...but you would need to confirm your setup is the same.

Once I confirm everything is working as it should I will put a production order in and allow pre orders.

I plan on doing:
- Black
- grey
- white
- red
- green
- blue
- checkered (greys)
- blackjack
- and maybe other styles if I get enough support....???

** PM me if you are interested in doing the install demo.

**If you're interested in buying a set please post a reply (with color preference) so I can get an idea of how many to have printed. It may be 1-2 months before they are ready but at least I can have the printer prepare for production once I know the prototypes are working.

I think before or during '08 it changed, 06/2008 is when the part number changed (My assumptions)
01 Speedometer, instrument panel MPH 1 06/2008 62109136196 ENDED (70 top 150 max)
01 Speedometer, instrument panel MPH 1 09/2010 62109180142 ENDED (80 top 160 max)
01 Speedometer, instrument panel MPH 1 09/2010 62109233770 (80 top 160 max, LCI)

I am very interested, but able to help at this time. I like black, to look like the JCW gauges personally. I could see you getting more takers if you had a carbon fiber-esque option, or depends on how the checkered grey looks.

Aaron:

My speedo gauge face = 0-180mph and the tach face = 0-8k

2011 R-56 "S"

What is the material of the proposed faces?

How are you anticipating fitting the faces; bending the faces or removing the indicator needles? If removal of needles then how do you do that task?

I would be happy to write up a "How to" once it is complete, along with photos of the entire process.

Stephen

These are full replacements made of similar thickness plastic and will require that the needle is popped off in order to get the new faces installed...

That needle popping off part - is that pretty easy?

...Yes, it is super easy and is just a friction fit...using a metal fork with a piece of plastic behind it to protect the old face is the easiest way to remove it...

Just my 2 cents... it doesn't matter to me whether it's kmph or mph. I'll refer to the digital speedometer anyway. It might be fun to scare a few passengers before they realize they're looking at km and not miles

I think I may hop in for BlackJacks if the price is reasonable.

+1

I NEVER look at the speedo cluster in the middle. I always use the tach to digitally display my speed. I tell passengers the giant speedo is just for them to get a good view of the show...

I'd like if km/h were at least shown secondary so you don't have to set the digital display whenever you cross the border. I'm all for a nice clean speedo face but I don't like that Mini doesn't show both.
