well, the graphics were completed long ago and at this point we would not be able to do a variant of the design without making a big mess...

i just looked at the R58 gauge faces ... a tick every 100 rpm would be too much, i can live with every 200 rpm

The speedometer needle is easy to take off.

The tachometer needle is a PAIN in the rear! Cannot take it off. This is for Gen 2.

So how did you get the Speedo needle off?

I purchased a used Tach to test the needle removal and did get it off but I don't think it would work correctly again. It feel like it has tight spots in its rotation now.

Indeed, my tach needle is off for sure. Sits toooo low now at idle.

Speedo needle will pull off, takes a bit of tugging..but pull evenly and it will let loose...it's a pin-based needle (means there's a shaft connected to the needle.

The Tach, as you must have found out is the same isn't it? I had to rotate it up against its stop and pull at the same time.

The only thing I did not try was a hairdryer to heat the plastic before removing it, with something between the needle and the Tach face to stop heat transfer to the Tach.

My friend Simon at essentialmini.co.uk is going to make a video of how to remove the tach needle. Will ask permission to post here as well.

Haven't heard on permission yet.

But, I was able to remove the needle, reset the tach and reinstall the needle. All is good again. w00t!

Here's a pic of the tach after needle removal. What do you know, there is a spindle there.

Held the needle with my left hand. In my right hand, used a flat head screwdriver to put underneath the needle base. Then, while pulling up with the screwdriver, twist the screwdriver in a clockwise and/or counterclockwise motion so it acts like a wedge. The needle will "pop" off.

Hoping I get permission to use the video. It's very helpful explaining how to do it.

I tried that, then put two screw drivers under it and pried from opposite sides evenly. I got nothing until I twisted the needle up against its stop and kept rotating. Not good.

I will have to look more closely at my tach.

Thanks!

Waiting for my set for my R60. Should ship tomorrow. Curious about how the speedo gauge is installed. I know she I had these on my R53, I had to remove the speedo. Is it the same on the 2nd Gen/R60?? Thanks

Got mine about a month ago. Pulled both needles off by hand. Hardest part is getting the speedo back to zero. I was able to use a 90 degree pick to leave the speedo installed and just pry the plastic tabs up.

When I did the original beta fit-up for OutMotoring, that was the part that I had the most trouble with. I thought I had it zeroed, put everything together, and it went backward past zero... BAH!! LOL

Either way - They still look great, and I'm still super happy with them.

I agree they look stunning. Getting them to read zero was the hardest part of the install lol.

Looks like I need to get the intestinal fortitude to try getting the tach needle off, again. but this time on the tach in my vehicle.

When I tried it with a sacrificial junkyard tach I wrecked it trying to get the needle off and I am sure it will never work properly, if at all, ever again. There are tight spots in the rotation now. I am inclined applying heat, like hair dryer or low setting heat gun, to the needle before trying to lift/pry it off, all the while using a heat blanket material to keep heat off the tach.

Did anyone try this method??

Did Outmotoring Post a "How To" video?

Did you guys completely remove the speedo to change? If not, how did you remove the piece in the photo. On the countryman it is behind the clear cover and I am trying to figure out if I can replace gauge face without removing the speedo. Also, I found that once you change the face, plug the tach in, it will reset and you can see if the needle is where it should be. I actually plugged the tach in, then put the needle on, checked and reassembled the tach. Is the speedo I am trying to figure out.
