Altec motorized license plate holder

For those that don't want to drill into their brand new countryman, and don't like the look of the bolt on, here's another solution.

Video of it in action:

Give yourself some space to work under the car

Attach to the battery

Attach the module to the car where it won't get hot. Note, the area I chose left the wire to the base about 6" short, I just added more wire.

The antenna

drop the wire under the car

The wire came out along the mud flap

Attach the base, I just shot a few screws into the rubber, seems to hold fine.

I drilled another hole to zip tie the cable against the underside

All finished

I like that.. MD is strict about front tags and this would be fantastic to have. Let them pull me over for not having one, flip the switch and I'm legal.. Badass.

Cool. But wouldn't make it through the first snowfall around here.

Neat...
But highly illegal...think of the possibilites...put two on a car...rob a bank, run a toll, zoom through red light photo intersectiond, etc.

If i remember right, installing or using any devise that can automatcally hide, or change a regesteration plate is punishable buy fines and or jail time...big points too boot.
Hate to be the buzzkill, neat idea, neat product, but get caught using it...the fine is MUCH BIGGER than the one for no front plate....

Highly illegal? Things are either legal or not.
I can't believe that plate holder is illegal. Most likely, just like many legal things, it can be used in a manner that would break the law.

Agreed. Sort of like being kind of pregnant. Or buying a sledgehammer for demolition, but think of the possibilities....

...Giving someone a bad day via a whack to the head, or destroying someone's car, etc.

Possession of an item does not equate to ones intended use of an item.

I thought these were for show cars and that's my intent for use. Not to steal or commit some sort of fraud as implied.

Lol it's not illegal, and you still have the back plate.

Altec also sells a manually operated version of this plate holder. Just installed it on our new CM-S. You can get it on Amazon HERE.

How are these holding up just screwed into the rubber? I like this option more than the No holes brackets.
