The Blue Sharpie Mod

K, so here's the deal. This is something that has annoyed the daylights out of me in every car I've ever owned. The high-beam indicator light is a *VERY BRIGHT* blue light. Kinda counter-productive to the purpose of high-beams, which is to see further down the very dark road....

So, enter the Blue Sharpie Mod:

Get your Blue Sharpie ready.

Disassemble the tachometer unit per these instructions up to but not including the removal of the gauge's needle.

Carefully color in the high-beam indicator's lens with the Blue Sharpie.

Plug in tach and test the high-beam indicator light for completeness and evenness of coloring in its lens.

Touch up if necessary.

Reassemble, Stephanie!

Enjoy a less glaringly bright high-beam indicator.

HTH!

C ya,
Dutch

i did something similar but put teflon pipe tape on the backside of a piece of double sided scotch tape. dims the light as well as helped it to diffuse more evenly (i have aftermarket gauge faces and it was even brighter than stock and had hotspots on every symbol. did this to every one, now its much better)

Here's the 'after' shot--note that it's now pretty much the same brightness as the indicator for the cruise control, which is dim enough not to offend the eye in the dark:

I'd just filled up, and hit almost all the lights green on the way home from the gas station, which is a 40mph putt-putt of a trip.

I saw as high as 50MPG on the meter before I caught the one red light.

How do you figure it is red lined? If you are looking at the lights towards the upper end of the tach, this is normal lighting.

So if I read this right, if I paint the highbeam light with a blue sharpie, I'll get 40.5 mpg?

I'm outta here, headed to Office Depot. Do you have a part number for the Sharpie????

Seriously, that's a great idea. The high-beam spotlight has bugged me since day one.

The 40.5MPG thing isn't Sharpie-related. It requires a special magic elixir laced with Unobtanium.

I'd be happy to share the formula, but then I'd have to kill you....

Well, I hope this helps, then. I'm a *big* fan of the KISS method, and this aligns with that and fits nicely within my budget (the Sharpie was free)....

It looks good. That light doesn't really bother me though. Nice idea though.
