My Dad drives an '03 BRG MC and does not want to add a bra or the clear paint protection to the front of the car. He asked me if I had seen anything like a bug type deflector that would attach to the hood somehow???

I do not remember seeing anything like this ---- nor would I put anything like this on my '02 BRG MC (I think its sacreligious or something)..

Anyway to each his own - he is frustrated with stone chips along the front edges of the bonnet - any suggestions out there????

Remember this is not my idea!!!!

wind deflectors are used to spin off bugs and debris from the front window,
not to protect the bonnet and front-end of the car. the mini's front windshield
is probably too prependicular that no deflector would work that well to protect
the winsheild either.

i would re-suggest clear bra as it is literally invisible to the eye unless you
point it out about 2ft from the car. i use it on my aero bumper and will
not go back to no protection. it's really not that hard to install yourself
either, but just need patience. Most shops will install it for about $150-250
depending on how many pieces you choose to install. mine was just one
piece and installed it in about 3 hours by myself.

http://www.autoclearguard.com talk to Ryan. he's very cool. tell him you're
from NAM and get your 30% off if he's still offering it.

MSFITOY!

This reply is exactly what I expected
The whole concept that he is thinking about has no words to describe - I shared your thoughts/comments with my father - an old Brit!! After asking where you lived - he responded with I've been driving mini's since before that guy was born

Thanks for the laugh - and the "only" appropriate type of response that this deserved!!!

Kenchan - I have sent him the links for the clear bra - I think it is the way to go!!! Perhaps I should get it done to mine when he visits in a couple of weeks - it looks like a great product...

One question - after it has been dinged up over time - is it removable so it can be replaced??????

Not only that but the bug deflectors you see on pickups cuts gas milage by about 2 to 3 MPG.

okmini- yes, you just need to heat up a corner of the clearbra and it will peel off. takes a little muscle but won't damage the paint (guaranteed by 3M).

Another option is, you could just go naked and have the chips repaired by a paint chip repair place once a year. Costs less than $80.

Some advice... give the car in front of you plenty of room, especialy on the freeways. Stay away from behind trucks 18 wheels or only 4. They tend to throw rocks. If you see some idiot traveling too close to the side of the road, change lanes or back off.

I've had my MINI since 10/02 and I only have 3 chips (that are already fixed).

I know many of you have the clear protection, but I've seen these things after several years. They get scratched and pitted just like the paint and the line/pits become more noticable over time due to wax/junk build up. This is very noticable on a dark car like the BRG.

Just my 2 pennies
