Where to get aero kits from in US/Canada?

Hi all,

The dearth of available bodykits around where I am saddens me greatly. My only choice is the "aero kit" (my dealer isn't even able to say if it's the JCW or the "regular" one) for $1700 + $2300 for install and paint. That's ridiculous.

Can anybody point me to anywhere that sells body kits - pre-painted or not? Where do people get this stuff? Minigenuineparts has some - but shipping is 600 pounds which is close to $1k. :D

Any help welcome, feel free to PM if links aren't allowed.

Thanks!

morristown mini has some pretty good deals... but that price sounds about right. Paint is not cheap and can be 95 bucks an hour in some places...

Best bet, and with some luck, keep your eye on NAM market... few jcw body kits have been sold, but not as of late.

Fair enough. Still tho... my 335xi bodykit was 1200 and paint/install was like 800-900... so almost half the price, heh :(

What about all those fancy imported kits? Nobody specializes in those?

Also - does Morristown have an online price catalogue, or only via email?

Minigenuineparts is coming out to $2022.34 shipped for me. Do we have to pay any duties or taxes on items shipped in like that?

DuelL stuff is pretty sexy. Still... a front bumper (though with the cool LEDs) is looking like $1,300'ish... unpainted I should assume. Though I do go to Japan every year or so, I _could_ pick one up... but damn. That's a bit expensive, heh.

See, what I don't understand is if Minigenuineparts can sell it for that price, why can't someone on THIS continent sell it for something "comparable"? So that we don't have to pay $700 for shipping?

The short answer is that MINIUSA is the exclusive supplier of all OEM parts in the US, and they set the wholesale price. Through the normal (non-grey market) sales channel, all US dealers and 3rd party vendors obtain OEM parts from MINIUSA. Minigenuineparts gets their parts from MINI UK, which apparently has lower wholesale parts prices for the aero kit.

So your beef should be with MINIUSA. However, before you get too upset about it, go on the mini.co.uk configurator and look at how much a MINI costs in the UK, or even Canada (mini.ca), for that matter.

Interesting point. That would explain why nobody really has them aftermarket except dealers. I actually did go look at prices - and yeah, USA Minis are by far the cheapest (although UK and Canadian prices are, by and large, identical). To be honest, that hardly justifies doubling the price of the aero kit. Not only that, though, the reality is that I _am_ in Canada - and our aero kits are even MORE expensive than in the US (even though the car itself is about $5k more expensive, base price).

And finally, the main price driver isn't even really the base price of the kit. It's the PAINTING - I don't understand why I can't find any *pre-painted* kits for sale (considering my car is pepper white, it's hardly a rare colour). If some OEM/3rd party vendor were selling a pre-painted PW kit for "close to base" price (which Minigenuineparts appear to be doing) - it would be the killer deal.
