Interior/Exterior different pedals for MORE brake/gas spacing?
different pedals for MORE brake/gas spacing?
this one's probably never been asked before....
I was wondering if there was some way to mod/replace the pedals to give MORE spacing between them? the only thing I've seen is people wanting to move them closer together for better heel/toe driving.
I have large feet, and I literally cannot drive my R56 wearing several of my pairs of shoes; I have to take them off before I drive or else I will often accidentally hit both brake and gas if I leave my heel in one place while driving.
One of the pairs are my dress shoes, and I feel pretty ridiculous pulling up somewhere in a suit and having to get my shoes from the back seat and put them on before getting out of the car.
I won't even go into the odd looks I get from people that ride with me....
Thanks,
David

I realize changing regular shoe to another shoe may look ridiculous to some, but have you thought about wearing a set of Polotti driving shoes ? Then at least they can just say you are a "driving nut" and not just a "nut"
They are thinner with excellent support providing fabulous pedal feel. Probably the most comfortable sneaker/shoe I have ever owned and wear them all the time. I found mine 50% off in an eBay store. ($45.00US shipped)
Absent that, you would probably have to have a prof. fabricator change the geometry of the pedals. I am sure there are some shops in your area who do such things to help folks with a physical handicap.

The second option would be to get a pedal set from a place like Ultimate Pedals. You can take the cover off the brake pedal; the stem underneath is quite a bit smaller than the pedal that covers it (take it off, you'll see what I mean. It's easy to take off and replace). You could offset one of the ultimate pedal designs of your choice as far over to the left as you'd like--just as long as the underlying stem is covered (although you could trim the right side of the plate with a dremel if you absolutely had to). Plus, with the holes, you can adjust to fine tweak pedal placement.
It does require drilling holes in the plate that the current brake pedal covers--it's easy, not a big deal.
+1. At first when I was learning how to drive stick, I could not drive bare foot... felt incredibly weird and unsafe. Now, its completely the other way around... I will go out of my way to take off shoes and especially sandals.

Well I wear sandals about 90% of the time and everytime I get in they come off and I drive barefoot. Though I went ahead and got some Pilotis because I have been wanting them for a while.

If you are driving an automatic, it might work to get a pedal set for a manual; you'd have an unused pedal that should have gone on a clutch, but the brake pedal would be much smaller than the traditional one on an auto.
I gave up searching for aftermarket pedals. I fell in love with some Onitsuka Tigers and wear those a lot. They're very narrow and hug my feet; besides driving barefoot, they're probably my next favorite.
Still have the same problem with dress shoes, but fortunately for me, my job doesn't require I dress up often.
If I were to do anything to pursue this any further, I'd probably experiment what cct1 suggested near the top of the thread: take the cover off the brake stem and see about offsetting it.
