Interior/Exterior Another Garage Door Opener thread?
I too have the desire to mount my opener remote in some neat way. I read through the different threads here and might end up doing the high beam thing but I am concerned about running the remote all the time the high beams are on might cause a problem, so I am looking at other options first.
I did not get auto A/C so I have this little 4th unused "button" that apparently would go to the heated windshield in Euro spec cars but is instead occupied by a button shaped blank on USA spec cars. I wonder if this could be adapted to function as a button and fire the remote? Any pictures of the manual A/C controls taken out of the car?

here's a "neat" way (and it's simple too).
put velcro on the back of your remote
put velcro on the inside of the driver's side door pocket
conceal remote in door pocket
Then all you have to do is just reach down with your left hand and hit the button, which will be in the same place each time, and totally hidden from view.

LeeL,
I got a mini (as in small) remote control from Home Depot that works with most remote control doors. it is about 2 1/2" by 1 1/2" by 3/4" when in the mounting bracket and has a keyring loop on it. I carry it loose in my door pocket and it rides there OK.

I got this idea to install it under the center pod from the previous thread. Now I just reach down and press the button on my remote which hangs upside down. it's brilliant, and completely invisible, and removable.
See the original thread comments from CooperMan:
"I just put mine under the center pod. If you reach up under the center pod under the dash you'll feel a cover. Just push up a little and it comes unsnapped. You can then use this ledge to put clip on your remote (it fits in backwards so the clip goes forward with the remote unside down). Total installation time: less than a minute. "

Well, I felt around and found the door under the switch bank, that should work but it is so unimaginative.

Alternatively, you can use the Magnavole Universal Transmitter, that will be activates by your middle left 'dead' button of your MFSW. There is no hard wiring as the one inch transmitter is wireless and is installed under your seat. It sells for $29 at Radio Shack. So you can open the garage with just your middle finger!
Wait a minute, that doesn't exist. But what an imagination!!

another simpleton idea is to just hide it under the little plastic sleeve on the underside of the "sun visor". then just push where the button is (that's under the plastic sleeve) and walla! Unfortunately for me, my remote has 4 buttons on it so none of the cool ideas works for me. I used to alwas love hiding the remote in the engine bay (so that the signal travels farther) and put an inconspicuous switch connected to it somewhere inside the car.
I looked into getting a used (wrecking yard) visor from a Volvo, Lexus, etc. that has the buttons in them (Volvo has three buttons) and having them installed in my visor. called a couple of wrecking yards and the want WAY to many $$$$ for one so back to the door pocket.

I had mine wired into the high beam circuit for awhile. Just flash the brights as you pull into the driveway and the door goes up. Then I realized that my rally lights were not operating correctly (I'm not sure if it was related or not). I pulled the RC out before I took it in for service and now it just sits on my Euro Parcel Shelf.
OK, so this thread got me thinking... "Clipped to my visor? Must be time for a change." So... I took Dave's advice and velcro'ed into the driver's door pocket. Convienent, stealth, removable and effective. Thanks, "DID"!
God speed.
God speed.
I used the blank toggle position to add a new chrome momentary toggle. Down controls the garage door opener and up controls the opener's light. The remote is tucked up under the instrument tower/above the two shelf organizer with a long enough wire to pull it out for battery replacement. I'm thinking about etching a door icon above the switch.

I just bought a small key fob type opener from my local garage door company for $20.00. Velcro'd it to the little speaker between the visors. Its almost exactly the same color as the speaker cover and looks like it was designed to be there. Only down side is that the small opener won't activate the door from more than 50 feet away so I just wait to push the button until I'm starting up the driveway. I have an 04 MCS so not sure if the 03 & 02's have that little speaker (Actually, I think it there for a mic to use with cel phones)
FRIES ADDED A TOGGLE! Way to go!
So my opener is velcro'ed in my side pocket and I'm proud to say that after two weeks I've begun to automatically reach there instead of the visor. Yes, I can be trained!
God speed.

Hey FRIES,
There was an owner that I used to bump into at various meets that did just what you're thinking about. He posted over on Mini2 under the name of MiniShuttle. He found out that the LED’s used for the back lighting of the toggle panel are already there for the blank toggle location and used a modified "Homelink" Icon to make his garage door emblem.
He hasn't posted in a while and his homepage link isn't working but you could PM him.

Thanks, Smokey4! I will definitely try to reach MiniShuttle to see how it went for him(/her). I also noticed the LED behind the panel, which gave me the idea to etch the paint.

I wish I had kept the pic he posted, looked really professional. There is another guy over on M2 that is from the Raleigh NC area that might have a contact number for shuttle, that guy's handle is ChipH.
Good luck.
