Carbon fiber inner door pulls finally installed

I finally figured out how to install these, after googling, and searching. Had a difficult time prying off the upper speaker cover, but after that it was easy. As stated in another of my posts, no need to remove the door panels, just pop off the speaker cover, arm rest, and it is 2 torx screws. Love how it came out. Also did the steering wheel, dash, shifter **** and ebrake handle, and alcantra boots for shifter and ebrake.

Very nice touch. The upper speaker ring is a but tricky to remove. I always say to just grab, squeeze, and pull. Is the carbon fiber the whole piece, or just an overlay?

Samysonary, thanks. The carbon fiber is the whole piece, and it is a JCW part. You can do a search on google and find them. I posted the pictures of these pieces on another thread in the interior section here, "How do I install these inner door pulls".

dj.papazian,

The door pulls cost 169.00 total for the pair, that includes shipping and tax. The dash cost me 400.00 total, for both pieces including shipping, those I purchased on ebay from morristown mini. By the way, these are JCW parts also.

Thanks! I think it it is the small details in a car that make a huge difference, and this is one of them.

Any advice on prying off the speaker cover? did you start on the door-pull side, the bottom, the top? Looking to make this a painless process for a little bit of customization.

Your trim looks great, btw

joshknot,

first, the passenger side is easy. You have to be very careful with the drivers side due to the mirror switch. Start where the door pull meets the speaker cover, on the bottom. I used a thin plastic piece from home depot that you use to spackle drywall with, maybe 1" wide. I put that in between the speaker cover and door pull, pryed a little bit, so there was space behind it for a thin regular screwdriver. I was able to put the screwdriver in behind the plastic piece, and then pop the speaker cover off. Then pull up on the arm rest, it just pops off easily. Then it is easy. 2 torx t20 screws, and the pull is off, in about 30 seconds. Screw in the new door pull, and then pop the speaker cover back on, and put the armrest back on. Just be very careful when doing the drivers side. pop the cover off, and then unplug the mirror switch, 2 screws again, etc, and reverse the process. Actually pretty easy, but the speaker covers were very tight on my car, and at first hard to pry off. Hope this helps, and it makes sense. If not, go to your local mini dealer and see how much they would charge you. It should not be more than one hour of labor max. Good luck!

Thanks a lot- that's exactly the type of detail I was looking for. I've got a nylon trim tool kit on the way for a few other projects, but it sounds like it will be perfect for prying these off. I'll be vinyl wrapping mine vs. going with a full replacement, but it should do a good bit to spice up the interior.

Thanks again!

I just install the same jcw carbon door pulls and it was not easy on the driver side with the mirror switch. they look kind of funny because it's the only carbon pieces in the interior.

1825vine, well I guess you are going to have to spend some money for the CF shift ****, and ebrake handle and dash pieces!

How do you take out the dash pieces? I've been searching and can't find any info. I plan on wrapping mine in CF but don't know how to take them off.

Driver side just pulls out. Its set in by friction fit. Passenger side is held on with a few screws/allen bolts.

Installed my new door pulls today. Apart from the mirror switch it was about a 15 minute job. Unfortunately I pulled the switch apart (didn't mean to ) getting the speaker grill off and it took an extra 45 minutes to get the switch back together and the grill back in place. Looks great now though. They're chili red vinyl wraps (from Lyles vinyl styles matching the exterior - including the mirror caps as shown. JCW chili red dash panels on order...

FWIW I used a torx 25 screwdriver - it's probably meant to be a 20 but the 25 seemed a better fit.
