Auto dim with homelink installed, but cannot power up

Anyone knows how to power up the auto dim with homelink rear view mirror for r56? I installed an oem mirror but cannot get it to power up, does it need
a flash from the dealer? Thanks.

Sorry to bump an old one, and I hope you're still reading -- but can you share how you installed it? Do you mean to suggest that you didn't have the auto dim mirror, and then bought it and installed it?

Can you share what you did to install it? Did you need a wire harness? Was it easy?

I just installed an auto dim mirror with homelink and mine didn't work either. I haven't taken it to the dealer. As far as the physical installation, it just twists on, no tools necessary.

Sorry Mike, which part didn't work -- the homelink? the dimming? both?

Neither worked. The connector for the manual mirror is the same but apparently doesn't deliver power to the mirror unless it is turned on in software. I called Northwest Mini in Seattle and the tech I talked to didn't know if it would work even if the mirror was enabled. He thought it might require a wire harness as well.

are you trying to install a dim with homelink in your 2003 car. If it is from a R56 (2007+) then I doubt you will ever get it to work.

It is for my 07 R56 MCS. The mirror came from a wrecked 07 R56 MC.

FYI I've asked enough dealers now to determine that yeah, a wire harness is something they will tell you you need.

Where did you get the mirror? I'm looking for an auto dimming mirror with or without HomeLink to test etching for a radar display, any info would be most helpful.

You do not need to get the car coded. I retrofitted mine and used instructions from hardwiring a radar detector on these forums to do it. You just need to buy a wire to insert into the harness (like $.25) and then you would tap into a power source.
