Plasti-dip help

Hey guys,

So I want to take the chrome surrounds off of the head and tail lights to plasti-dip them, do I have to remove the entire headlight assembly to do that? Thanks.

Use the search, it's there to help before you make a new thread, the tail lights you have too because the chrome is in the inside of the lens, the headlights you have to unscrew just enough to pop up a little bit and there are clips along the chrome, try not to break them but if you do then you can just use double sided tape to reapply them.

Your best bet is just to pull the headlight assembly off and pop the clips. Take your time. The taillights will have to be opened up. Easiest thing to do for the taillights, is just use a light tint on them.

What what what.... You want to plasti-dip your tail lights on your 2002 Mini???
There is no chrome ring on the tail light except on the inside of the light. That requires breaking the seal and opening up the light. (A lot of work)
The headlights however, just take out the three screws for each light, and tape up the lens with painters tape. Getting the chrome ring off is totally unnecessary. And hard to do for that matter.

agree with miniman, remove the headlights completely so that you do not damage the hood, tape up the lens and wrap newspaper around the housing, clean the chrome, and spray away. unless you are really handy with a dremel and have a very steady hand, DO NOT CUT OPEN YOUR TAILLIGHTS! goto lyle vinyl styles and get the vinyl wrap for them. i cut open my taillights and it was not an easy project to say the least.

As has been said, headlight rings are pretty straightforward.

I did my taillights and LOVE them. But it IS a major mod for something pretty subtle.

Yeah, it is a very major job, and if you do not glue them back together exactly how they were before, they might not sit flush and they could get moisture inside them. You can get some new tail lights off eBay for like 40 bucks that are blacked out! That's what my plan is! Of tint them. I live in Houston and heard they are pretty bad on the tinting issue and I don't want to get pulled over so I am going the other route. But I do like the tint look better!
