Rear Seat Delete + Spare Tire Mount

First off, removing the rear seats is amazingly easy. Wow, 5 minutes and their out.

I wanted to remove them to get some ideas about what I want to do with the area which was formerly my rear seat. And it got me thinking about integration of the spare tire with a DIY RSD kit.

One other person on this board did make a RSD kit with integrated spare tire storage, and I did like it. I was thinking however, of a rigid mount to prevent the tire from become a projectile in case of an accident, and from moving all together. Has anyone built a mount to interface with the rear seat mount (and the center of the rim)? I noticed it used a heavy steel bracket mounting with two bolts and a Pin.

Has anyone fabricated a spare tire mount to interface with this bracket? And also possibly the seat belt brackets? Keeping the tire level will ensure that in an accident the tire is loading the mount in shear. The rest of the RSD kit will be carpeted, including a carpeted cover for the tire.

Thoughts?

I made a custom rear strut bar after my RSD. It could easily be used as a solid mounting point for a spare tire.

That looks really cool man

That is mine. Been thinking about making it cooler and stronger. I like the schroth mounts in the center because ill get one eventually. I dont have the skills to make what you did, but maybe I'll drill some holes and put in some 1x1s.
Whats a Jumper seat? (Forgive me if thats a noob question)

jump seat:

movable or folding seat, as in a carriage, taxicab, or limousine, used as an extra seat.

Yeah I have for all weekend. Monday will most likely be the first day I can tackle this project. Maybe tonight if I'm lucky. As soon as I have it made I'll have pictures up and everything. I wouldn't mind turning this in to a very small side business

Well done man. That hook there is a T40 if you want to remove it. Are you using it for anything?

No i'm not using it for anything i just left it in case I ever have to put the back seat in. Plus to get it out I would have had to undo some of the RCB which I was not in the mood for. If you want one the other two I have cut I didn't cut the spot for the seat mount in them yet.

I could use the cloth wrapping you have on there for the plastic one I have. Does yours flex to use the space underneath as storage?

What do you mean by "flex to use underneath as storage". The cloth wrapping on a plastic one would be a bit tough. Attaching the cloth to the backside of it will be the hard part.

Mine needs a little fine tuning. I should have it completely done on Tuesday night.

Mine flexes so that I can pull it up and put stuff under it. I keep a spare set of clothes, some car care stuff etc etc. Also helps to put some pillows or something under it to reduce the road noise back there. You could use actual sound insulation, but who goes that far honestly :P
