Just tinted my rings

Thought I would throw a layer of tint on my rings and turned out really dope. It's a gun metal / black chrome look.

What you see on the car is:
-Windshield & front windows @ 50%
-Rear windows & hatch @ 5%
-Headlights @ 50%
-Head light rings @ 20%
-Front grill trim @ 20%
-Taillights @ 50%
-Taillight rings @ 20%
-Side markers @ 20%
-Side scuttle light @ 20%
-Fog lights tinted in yellow w/ 5000K HID kit
-Silver turn signal bulbs
-Alta stealth FMIC

I just scooped up this FMIC from "dunphyj" aka JP. It was peeling quite a bit so I stripped it and resprayed with some flat black primer. It is truly a stealth item.

Now it's on to my air ride research.....

sweet! but, isn't it a bit ironic to get a 5000k hid kit and then put yellow tint over it? they have 3000k kits, which would actually be yellow =p

It's transparent vinyl, similar to lamin-x. As far as technique.....I've been doing it for a few years, so it just takes practice.

Thanks man! I was actually trying to get into contact with you about your air ride. You think you could PM me any updates? I've read your vortex thread and I'm doing my own research, but I just wanted to know how you're enjoying it now.

I will take some more pics this weekend. The film is high quality and will last for years. PM me with any more of your questions about the film.

There's a reason why I did it that way. I did a customer's car that way once and we put it next to a car with a 3000K kit. My combo blows away a 3000K kit. The color is soooo much brighter and vibrant. It's more of a neon yellow than a dark yellow.

It's sunny out so I washed it. I forgot to mention that my sidemarkers and the light in the side scuttle are all tinted as well. Also, I finished up the look of my white turns with some silver bulbs.

The belt line blackout is next on the list. I won't be joey modding it since I don't like the look of it on a dark car. I loved it on my silver MK4 jetta, but not this.

When you apply the film, are there seams where you cut it, or did you overlay the entire trim with the vinyl and cut it to shape? How did you manage to do the headlight washers pieces? Are yo using a heat gun to apply/stretch the vinyl?

There are absolutely no seems. I do the rings in one piece. I wrapped the vinyl around to the back. A heat gun is a must. What you have to understand is that even with my experience this was a really difficult project.

Yes, I slapped that tint on the day after delivery. I originally had 5% on the door windows, but you probably know how the NYPD is with dark glass so I changed to 50%.
