Anyone have a CarID.com wood dash?

Bought my mini in June - Father's day gift from my wife!
They didn't have the particular model and accessories I wanted in stock so I ended up ordering. Didn't realize how long it takes for a car to go across 2 ponds to get to Hawaii! Won't get it until mid-August if I'm lucky.
Just got to keep telling myself that patience is a virtue. In the meantime, I'm lining up all the accessories I want to add already...
BTW, has anyone bought the wood dash panels from CarID.com? They look great but I'm nervous about the actual fit and finish. Will they look like pasted on wood veneers or do they really blend in well? I didn't get the English Oak finish because it just didn't suit me but the walnut burl real wood from CarID.com looks pretty good. Opinions?
Can't wait get motoring...

Another option you may want to try is patterntek.com. You basically remove your stock parts, and they have some sort of special dipping process to mimic a wood-like pattern.

Here's an example just in case anyone is interested...

Wood pattern over base checker pattern?

Would the patterntek dye overlay work on the base MCS checker pattern? Or would they have to "sand off" that pattern to get a solid base before applying the dye overlay?
Looks interesting. I'm nervous about anything that could not be restored to stock, though.
Thanks for the interesting option.

Don't know about the Patterntek process, but I talked to the people at CarID.com about the dash kits - they are flat pieces that you need to stretch/fold to fit, not molded pieces. Didn't sound as if it were something I wanted to tackle.

Chemdean,
Thanks for the info. I was considering getting the "real wood" overlays from CarID but if you have to stretch/fold them and they're flat, I don't see how this can be done w/o cracking the thin wood overlay; assuming that it's "real wood", of course.
Oh well, scratch that idea. I guess I'll just have to be satisfied with the checker pattern...

I have the checkered pattern too. If you ever find a molded overlay, I would be interested in it, if it looks good.

I've been wondering about doing a vinyl overlay, like they do stripes and roof emblems with..........why wouldn't that work and be reversable if desired?

How does CarId expect you to bend wood peices over the parts on the doors? Those are offered for sale as well. Sounds like I need to call them. I thought they sold you exchange parts done the way you wanted them

Hey MINIdave,
I just called them and they confirmed that the real wood pieces were FLAT and must be bent to fit. I can't see how that would look good and meet our standards.
