I'm biting my tounge on all of this mumbo jumbo... No need for this to turn into a "lifestyle" thread... That's just gonna cause religion to come into play to and then I'll be banned for sure!! There are plenty of OT threads and/or other wedsites for this! So either KRUT gets on here and makes things right, or lock the thread and admit your still wrong and dont want to make it right! Cause Justin left e-mail addresses and phone numbers to get ahold of him if anyone is interested in this moonroof cap. Therefore I see no need to continue on in here. RIP UKSUV If you are never seen on the boards again, your legacy lives on thru my account, I'll PM yo my password, Now lock her down

Any thoughts towards getting this thread back on topic? Perhaps a discussion of what one might want to pay for a one piece plug as was originally discussed or the " Tul " hatch might help convince other Mfg.s to join the fray ?

$35.

Seriously though, sounds like it would be an expensive mod. Something like $300 sounds reasonable considering what I paid for my other carbon parts.

I've been told a new roof skin is ~$500. Of course, going that route requires paint and a fair amount of labor.

So, for a "plug" for the sunroof, I'd guess $500 is about the right ballpark. It definitely needs to be less than just getting a new roof and having it installed.

It would be interesting to see what a stock roof replacement would run when all said and done . Anyone have an accurate estimate on that procedure ?

That would be the " Tuls " version and I am interested in that one as well. I am sure he will post up some details as they become available.

Robispec in Hesperia who specializes in race preperation, custom carbon fiber pieces, and setting up time attack Evos quoted me a $2,000 price to do a complete roof replacement piece with dry carbon fiber. He said he would need to make 10 to sell them at that price. Keep in mind that it does not include the roll cage that would be needed and the labor and paint.

2K seems very reasonable in many ways . GMG charges 6k for a GT-3 roof transplant but that is an out the door price with headliner.

Why would you need a roll cage? And why paint? If the sunroof frame was removed from below no paint should be damaged?

Forget this post. I re-read yours. It looks like you are talking about a complete roof, not just removing the sunroof.

The two roof skins I used to make my mold cost me $1275. Time and materials to complete mold: easy X2 that, and that's just the mold. It took me and a helper 4 hrs to laminate this thing ( and trust me I can laminate) that's 8 hrs of labor not including cutting materials, prepping/ finishing and last but not least R&I&D (for Research and Engineering and Design) and somebody wants it for $500? Maybe if you speak Chinese! Or if you can spell "wall paper carbon over CSM" call Sebon or Vis . Ho! just another little thing: when you take the sun roof out, you take the B pillar bridge out with it, so either you stick a roll cage in there or you repeat the whole process for the bridge. Mine may be only 365 grams but probably cost over $500. I had long stopped counting by then .

Randy, I wish I could afford time and $$ to go to production. If only the Mini guys had the Porsche guys wallets

Well...I think I have a beta tester for a full cap. That's a way easy mold as I am told. As far as the plug...its getting done right now. Then they will break the moonroof down and get exact dimensions for glass replacement. As far as price...its up to them. They want to break into the car stuff but I dont think they realize how cheap most car peeps can be. Yardage for CF and GOOD resin isnt cheap. They look at my ViS parts and laugh all the time. Im in it for 300 just for materials alone. They are taking pics of the process..I will give you an update when I get one. They are doing this on spare time so.................

I would not be suprised at all if your price was a few thousand dollars . I've seen the photos of your work and I have somewhat of an idea of what it took to get there . Good work costs , there is no getting around it . As for Porsche wallets I know what you mean . You tell them the sequential shifter system is $ 9400 and they just want to know when it can be installed

Do keep us posted as it sounds like they have a few different options in the works . As for them laughing at the VIS items they are not the only ones

How many of you Hetero men, believe that you choose to be with women?

I am going to be honest, I am having a hard time understadings Muladesigns logic. Trying to figure out if it's just me.
Personally, I don't view my heterosexuality as a "choice". Even though I technically have the ability to have sex with men instead of women, I couldn't have the same feelings for men that I do for women.

Likewise, I'm right-handed and don't view that as a "choice" either, even though I could force myself to write with my left hand, open jars with my left hand, etcetera. While I could technically "choose" to be left-handed, it would never be natural for me.

Regardless of how I "choose" to live my life, I'll still be a heterosexual "righty" at my core.

So IMHO, I don't think homosexuality is a "choice". Engaging in homosexual relationships *is* a choice, but the realistic alternative isn't to engage in heterosexual relationships instead - it would be to not engage in relationships at all.

well, yeah.

I wasn't saying it would be cost effective for the people making them to sell them for that.

I was saying that that was the price I had heard for a new factory roof skin. If I'm thinking about getting rid of the sunroof on my track car, that is the product any replacement panel needs to compete against. I'd go with whichever wound up being cheaper.

So why would expensive CF be the same price as a factory roof skin I know the dealer is expensive but D...A...M...N

This would be well worth the investment for anyone using it for it actual intention

I got my non sunroof roof skin for just about $400.

If you guys are looking at carbon as bling then the worth is up to you. If it's weight savings for just street driving then also up to you. If you intend to track your car then be prepared to be excluded from doing so, and if you ever want to actually race, then forget it as a full CF roof skin is not allowed on a Mini.

Replacing the skin is not that tough, but it is time consuming. Removal of all the glass is the hardest part. Otherwise it's just drilling out the spot welds and grinding away some hand welds and your all set. Just a couple of days work to get it off if you do it casually.

So are we talkin' no cf period on the roof? Or is just the moonroof plug in CF allowed??? I imagine this is in case of a rollover, even though UK's car is caged, they still wouldn't allow it right?

I've seen several track Minis which have had the sunroof removed but the space was always filled with metal . Whether or not this was done for cost or rules I do not know for sure . We had a CF insert on one of our earlier cars but we were not under any rules restraints . It was nothing special , just a sheet of CF filling the gap and was noisy and would have leaked like a sieve in a wet climate.
