Interior/Exterior CF moonroof replacement panel interest
Well I'm confident in both the products here by Justin and Chris will not have that issue. Plus in AZ it never rains so good with that!
The noise factor would be an improvement inside UK's cockpit... But still wondering about the rules onasled... Is that for certain classes or what? Not that the car will see pro curcuit time like yours and Randys, but still a local track would be fun but not if they don't allow that... Thats dumb! The cage would protect if you had no roof!!

Sorry, didn't mean to confuse here. I guess I was responding the inquiries about Carbonized's full CF roof skin replacement.
As far as I know a CF sunroof opening is fine in HPDE and most all classes of racing.
Most all rules of racing in any class specify that no roof may be replaced with anything other then factory spec. So if you own a factory CF roofed M3, then you good to go, but if your M3 did NOT come with that option then you must stick this steel. But you must remove all sunroof glass and replace with steel, aluminum, and composits, including CF

We have a mini at the shop that we prepared for the touring car champ series which originally had a sun roof . We replaced the hatch with an aluminum plate and had no problem with tech enspection. If a CF piece were properly attached I do not see a problem with that as well but a phone call to the proper association's tech dept would be prudent.

ETA is whenever the Double Mint twins get it done...
nice work by all who are working on this product. just a word of caution for those who would take it to the track. when cf is involved in a shunt, it fractures and sends sharp fragments flying. a roll cage will not protect you from these. a properly designed core material, or better yet, a layer of kevlar, will solve the problem. the addition of kevlar will make the cf behave similar to safety (laminated) glass vs. plate glass in a crash. i will be fabbing a lot of cf parts for my race car build, but have decided to install a non-sunroof steel roof skin.
you are such a tard.. really... so quick to always make comments. the glass weighs how much? have you weighed it? I have. I'll be shaving more than what you just rattled off cause you dont actually know what you are talking about.
you are not even half ***. you are a quarter ***.
I still love you though. I know you are just mad cause you are still trying to be me but just cant keep up.
thank you randy. Glad someone knows what the heck is going on.

. And Kevlar is heavier and more brittle as I understand it. Have you ever had a raw CF splinter in your finger? It hurts like a ****
. And on the roof skin...I was gonna go that route a long time ago but I wanted to do something different. Plus, I like the hole. So, I still unscrew it and put it in a padded bag. Then it will almost be like a vert...
Just a comment. Bean is quite correct about the danger of CF.
Kevlar is not brittle in the least as it does not absorb the resins like CF does. When CF shatters, it does just that, but when Kevlar is struck in the same way it almost reverts back to a cloth. Once Kevlar delaminates you just can't repair it, hence why some very expensive and extreme racing sailboats sit worthless in marinas for about 1 cent to the dollar.
In building my CF doors I used a layer of heavy weight kevlar on the inside in case of impact. The Kevlar will keep the carbon from slicing me up in a side impact.

! Roof skin cap and glass replacement options on the way shortly. Wes will get the first cap since he was kind enough to let us borrow the car....

I coulda been there for this, answer your damn phone!!! Looks sick though for sure!!! Now take off the take and plastic so we can see the finished project
That project belongs to member mitemini and you can find a thread for most of the project here: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...-build-11.html
I had the privilege of fabbing that one off roof along with a bonnet, boot lid and some interior parts.

Thanks,
Oh I've already got a lot of parts on a lot of cars here, and I'm still backed up a couple months with work.
sunroof delete
so has anyone came up with a good sunroof delete i am very interested in this. my sunroof has stoped working and i would like to replace it with a solid panel i know this is an older thread but still hoping some one has some info thanks
I started on the plug for my mold of the sun roof panel on monday,so far so good. the way i am making it,i will be able to use the factory drip frame so i will not have to worry about water leeks it will just go out the factory locations. once the mold is done the first pannel i make will be of fiber glass, i just want to make shure everything looks good before i use carbon fiber. I will keep u posted on the project and let you know how it goes.

Wow, 56.4 lbs!!
That's kinda like mounting 45lbs and 10lbs plates on my non-sunroof MCS?
Or duct taping my 60lbs dog "Spanky" to the roof?
NEVERMIND the rest.
