M7 Vortex scoop

I just put it on! I had it painted glossy black. Im still on the fence if I want to keep it. Something tells me I should black out the chrome.

Yes the scoop looks great but black out some chrome and it will look a lot better.

More air modification

I got an M7 V scoop and did some modifying to create a larger opening in the stock hood scoop.

There is an obstruction behind the stock scoop that blocks half of the opening. The above picture is a view with the stock scoop removed.
M7 Vortex scoop-practice-cut.jpg
The above is a picture of the practice cut. I wanted to see how easy the cutting would be and if the blade would follow the line I wanted. The final cut, followed the line just below the practice cut where the 2 pcs. of sheet metal overlapped. After the cut, I burnished everything smooth so it would be safe to fingers and a good surface to prime.

This is a view of how open the scoop is after the cut. The cut is smooth and straight. The irregularities are corrugations in the metal, not jagged lines.

Part II

I also slightly modified the scoop by removing a bit of the material as shown below. This is the bottom of the scoop. The line is the cut line that will make the scoop opening just a bit wider.

After the cut, I smoothed everthing to remove sharp edges and test fit the scoop.

Now its off to the painter.
The following is a picture of the pcs of material removed from the hood. Note the profile that diverted and blocked the air.

Thats it. It is now much more open. The thought behind this was/is, why have a CAI if no air gets in.

Do you have much rain where you live? I'm curious how much water is able to collect around the coil packs. I live in the Northwest (lots of rain), and felt that the little up turned lip collected water that would otherwise collect around the coils.
