What size are your checkers?

Hello, I am getting ready to order some white checkers for my black roof and want to know what size your squares were cut?

Pics would be great!

About 2 weeks ago I helped a friend put a checker top on an R53. He had the squares cut at a sign shop and they were 9"x9".
I also found out that there are also those that are 5"x5" and also some 7"x7". I dont remember which website I found the three sizes of checkerd roofs, I guess it's which ever one you like the best.

We installed individual squares one at a time, really not a bad job.

Cool, I guess I would like to see some pics. I probably will go with something smaller than 9x9.

These are six inch checkers:

And by the way, i would highly recommend a FULL roof graphic over doing individual squares, unless you don't plan to ever polish/wax your roof. You'll either have to tape all those edges or clean them with cotton swabs when you're done.

Or... you can just leave the wax and polish there if you're the type not to care.

CR&PW&JB, when you say "full roof graphic", that means it is one piece? And you wax and polish the vinyl?

That is one sharp roof! How was it done, how long did it take & how much did it cost?

Exactly. One piece.

Clay bar, polish, wax, anything you do to the paint, you can do (and should do) to the full vinyl roof.

If you do the individual squares, you can still do those things, but you will end up with the polish/wax accumulation on all those many, many, edges. And good luck trying to clay bar or use a buffer on the roof.

It took a few hours. Its individual pieces but it was masked into rows of 3 from left to right. It didnt cost that much, any sign shop van do it for about $100

After they cut the vinyl, it took me and a friend about 3 hours

I hope that's the total price... vinyl AND labor. Even then, that's high. My total cost was about $375. Of course, that was about two years ago.

That doesnt sound too far out of line. I work at a sign shop and did my own graphic, but I'm considering switching to a Silver Checker flag design or maybe checker flag using albumn covers. There are also a few more wrap ideas floating around in my head.

Is that $500 for the labor? The full roof graphic runs about $300.

12"x12" Labor = free. Vinyl is cheap and it's a fairly easy job, just do it yourself.

I like them because it makes the roof asymmetrical. Plus it keeps the roof from looking overly busy, which checkers have a tendency to do.

Do they install or just cut the vinyl?

It looks like the full vinyl including the labor will run around $500, is that about right?
