checkercoop I wanna plasti dip my rims but idk if it would be ok to do. i dont see why it wouldnt but people on here have been very skeptical sounding. i would do it today if i had off, i hope its this nice sunday!

joey mod will be done after everything else is done blacked out. use high temp engine paint? or what? i figured since we have hologens plasti-dip would work. but i guess we will see how it does on my hood scoop haha.
Well plastidip should be fine on the whole thing, but I wouldn't be too sure on that metal dome that covers the bulb itself. I only used krylon fusion plastic paint and it has not bubble after over 8 months. I really am not sure how the plastidip will do on that specific part though

Ehhh, they aren't doing much really. The other dealer replaced the whole clutch kit, but the noise/texture still persists. My dealer just did the same attemp as they did when I first noticed it at 4,000 miles (lubed the fork/slave connecting), but still I have the problem. I am going through some processes right now and hopefully that will get me some justice. Also on my second water pump and when they replace my window regulator they actually made window noise worse, different, but worse. Just a headache and I wish they would just admit that I got a dud and exchange me for a good one.

There are 4 T20 screws on the bottom side (where the vanity light and boot open button is). Just undo those, then disconnect the wire to the lights and button (its on a quick disconnect). From there you can either paint the whole assembly or slowly pop the cover part you want to paint (easier and less masking needed, but don't break clips). That piece also has some adhesive so once the clips are undone, you will need to pull it away form the housing.

plastidip wheels

I have plastidipped the wheels. 200ish miles and no problems. It can be very addictive. I've had to start smoking crack in order to stop plastidipping. My wife even had me plastidip her bike. I don't have a picture of it yet.

If it WAS chrome it is now plastidipped. All is left is the door handles and the Joey mod

blacking out the beltline is going to do wonders for your astro black mini. It makes the car look lower. gives it the appearance of a shorter roof. i think you should deffinitly joey mod and get rid of those orange side markers on teh scuttles. hehe. everything looks great on it. i want my plastidipped rims!!!!

You suck , I was going to do the matte black stripe and be the first. Looks like you beat me to it. Where did you get the stripe from? Awesome wheels.

Thanks I ordered a roll of 3M MATTE BLACK 7125 from Graphicsignsupplies.com, they are very helpful, and I cut them out myself. I love the black on black. The emblems are back on now but I don't have any new pics yet.

I really want to plastic-dip my wheels too along with the headlight and tail light rings and plastic dip joey. The brake dust is horrible and I figure it won’t show as much with black wheels. My only problem is the wheel weights are mounted on the outside and I don’t have time yet to get them switched.

How many cans of plastic dip did you use to paint the 4 wheels? I was thinking of using maybe 1 can per wheel. Any problems with rock chips? I figured with plastic dip, even if there is a chip, you can easily just spray the spot a little and it blends in once its dried.

It was probably 2.5 to 3 cans for the wheels. I only did three coats on the front and one heavy on the inside because I didn't want to add too much weight. Its been about 250 miles and the look just like the day I did them. I left the weights on and painted them too. Touch up will be easy, another reason I went the plastidip way, plus I can always peel it off and have perfect factory wheels again.

I wonder how the plastic dip will hold up when the time comes to swap tires. I never paid close attention before but it looks like the machinery might scratch up the edge of the rims

I'm sure it will peel it and it will have to be re-done, but so would any rattle can paint job. I plan on getting new wheels when I need tires anyway, but a redo of the plastidip is easy since they only prep is cleaning

I think your wheels look amazing. I would be proud for my wheels to look like that

The plastidip worked best for me because:

I am leasing and it's great that I can peel it off and they will look original since there is no sanding

Ease of installation since all you do is clean and shoot. which adds to ease of repair. The plastidip is so forgiving, if you mess up a bit you can fix it on the next coat. Mess it up bad, peel it off and start over.

cost, even four cans plastidip = 4 cups of coffee (I mean 20 bux)

My other chrome is now plastidipped so it all matches.

Speed. these were sprayed and I was back on the road quickly

Again I am a big fan of your wheels and I was actually going to buy new ones or get mine powdercoated until reading your thread a month or so ago

No doubt. I was just throwing out another alternative! It seems that you have really thought this through before doing anything and is a great idea for people that lease their cars. I hadn't thought of that - Good job!

im no so sure about that...with proper prep, a spray paint job can be very very strong....im very skeptical on this plasti-dipping of the wheels...

I was and am still skeptical, It's been about 350 miles now and still looks great. The great thing is though, if I start not to like it or want to do something else, I just peel it off. No damage done.

Yeah I had done my stock MC non-S gas cap in it. The texture is really ugly when it's on a painted part like that. So about a week or so of having it I peeling it off. Comes off really easily. Can use masking tape to pull of any extra bits

sooo, your wheels are "too good" for plastidip? good thing nobody is twisting your arm to use it. I bet you are so proud.
