Interior/Exterior Sylvania Silverstrreak lamps

Silverstar bulbs are very good. They're not just regular bulbs that have been painted blue like the kind you might find at the bottom of a bowl of rice.
Trouble is, they only make a few shapes, and none are the H7 style needed for the MINI. There are a couple of alternative brands -- someone else will have to chime in with specifics though.

Thanks for correcting me: it is SilverStar, not Silverstreak. Also i checked the Sylvania website and indeed they do not list the MINI among cars for which they make lamps. Curiously though, they have a Cool Blue lamp in H7, 55 watt, configuration but again the MINI is not included. Also noted tha the color temperature of the Cool Blue is 3450K which is warmer than the SilverStar's 4000K (more white).
What other manufacturers are there?

Come on rf. Rice is a commonly used derogatory term for rich kids of all races who paint their headlights blue because they think all the kids in Tokyo are doing it.
Now if Asians were the only kids ricing out their cars my slang would certainly be offensive, but if you look past all the Japanese lettering obscuring the windows you'll see a black / white / hispanic or whatever kids in there. The only common denominator is stupidity. So I say: Fair game.

Sure rice, ricer, rice rocket etc...those are pretty common. But saying that a car part which you dont like comes from the bottom of a bowl of rice? you dont see whats so offensive in that? Or saying that a spoiler is used only for holding sushi or is found only at sushi restaurants, thats not suppose to be derogatory? I dont see whats so common and OK with that...if a kid wants to put sometiing like blue lights I dont see how he's stupid, maybe has bad taste but that doesnt make him stupid.
I just hope they dont start putting blue bulbs in hamburgers, that wouldn't be nice.

Yeah, a bulb in the burger would be bad. At least in a rice bowl you can pick around it.
I'm surprised you remember the sushi bar spoiler! Guess I better just stick to the commonly accepted rice terms and not get so graphic. I only mean to offend those with tasteless appendeges, not anyone else and I apologize to anyone who felt that my comments associated their race with those "blue light special" bozos.

The silverstars are available in H7 - just not in the states under the sylvania name - but in the rest of the world sylvania sells their products as osram i believe and they do sell a H7 bulb for the silverstars.
Now there is a difference between the silverstars in the states and the ones in the rest of the world...the version in the states ARE tinted slightly blue where as the others ones are not. So if you do not want any tint of blue or slight blue then get the osram labeled ones. The blue tinting will make the light appear brighter outside of the car, but not from the inside.
Now i can't vouch for the osram bulbs being street legal as they will be slightly brighter then the sylvania labeled ones in the states due to the blue tinting gone, but they shouldn't be much brighter for oncoming traffic.
Now with all of that said you could just hold off until October when Slyvania will be releasing a version of the silverstars in h7 bulbs in the states but these will have the blue tint to them.

Speed_Is_Good - yup the vision plus are also great bulbs and you can get them in the states. The link I posted for example has them as well. From everything I've heard from people using them or the Osram's is that they are nearly identical(the Sylvania labeled silverstars have a bit more blue in them - but not much).
PIAA also makes some great bulbs that I think are worth looking at. I'm planning on getting some put in my MINI very soon.

I have fit the Osram H7's +50% and can testify that they are noticeably brighter and whiter than the OEM's. They certainly are a match for the higher wattage bulbs I have previously used. The best approach would be to replace both hi and low beams (4 bulbs) to get the maximum benefit.
Oh, and if you can't find the Osram's, RSpeed is selling Hella H7+50's which I would imagine are equivalent in performance.

The stock bulbs are 55W - using anything higher can put added stress on your car's electrical system and if there is any problem with your electrical system I am sure your dealer will gladly try to deny warrenty work due to a higher wattage bulb being used. Is there cases where it hasn't caused any problems...sure a bunch of them...but there is also plenty of good and very bright bulbs on the market that are 55W so I don't see any reason to go higher due to the potential risks.

Casey,
Cool, I obviously missed which previous post you were responding to...
The car electric guys I talked this over with also mentioned that the reflectors and plastics in the light casings could be damaged by the heat of higher wattage bulbs... they have seen this on other cars. Not to mention the potential baking of the wire or socket insulators... I've experienced that.
'Might be hard to explain away at the dealer...
Cheers
