OctaneGuy's Jet Black MCS *Custom*

Ok, so I began a thread a few weeks ago in the Wheels and Tire forum on my custom 2 color powder coated wheels, but as the thread evolved, I wanted to show off my painted interior, and various exterior bits, and really was no longer about my wheels, so I've decided to consolidate everything into one post. I don't want to duplicate the wheel thread, so you can go here (there are other pix on that thread that I didn't include here):

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...78#post2097878

It all started with my peeling Flik Bullet wheels

Curb rash was fixed

Then chemically stripped

Then powder coated

Nitto NeoGen 215/40R17's were mounted along with Hella TC-400 TMPS (reason for silver valve stems)

Went to Danny at MiniCorsa to have some mods done including Megan Coilovers.

Hella TC-400 display gauge under Nuvi 360

Rear Tire Profile of Nittos

Compared to Falken Ziex 512 (205/45r17)

Interior and exterior bits painted

Swirls? Yeah needs some polishing after the repaint.

Before

Tach and airbag ring still need painting

Black 20% Satin powder coated gas cap

Strassentech Spoiler Lip

Overall

Next up, replace front CF scoop back to Jet Black. Repaint bonnet..lots of chips. Replace headlight rings--already painted Jet Black.

He had the wheels powdercoated both colors. It's amazing what they can do with powdercoat these days.

looks sweet! you should do the scoop and headlight rings (maybe even the door handles) in red to continue the red/black theme.

although my signature pix doesn't show it (i've slowly blacked out all the chrome and the hood scoop - still need to do the door handles and trim around the windows). i've actually been thinking about doing the deck stripes in black, then painting the roof and spoiler black with the red rising sun or maybe painting the roof and spoiler red and doing the rising sun/deck stripes in black!

I agree with the premise but I think if Richard does the headling rings AND the scoop, the front bonnet will overpower the sides of the car and the balance will be thrown out of whack.

Me... I would paint just the scoop red and leave the headlight rings as they are.

CooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooL !

Thanks everybody!! I really love my car soooo much, now that's its truly personalized. Just took a trip down to San Diego--covered some 250 miles this morning to pick up my Scan Gauge II from a WCMer and it was a pure joy.

The painting took 2 days at my powder coater. Basically I got the wheels stripped, then took them to the powder coater. They prepped them, then coated the red ring. Manually masked the ring with little strips of tape. Then coated the rest in 20% black satin and baked that.

Thanks me too, it's one of my favorite details. From a distance, it's not really obvious as it's pretty subtle. The red inner lip on the wheels is the same--not eye popping loud.

I don't have many interior shots as it was stock and not a lot to be impressed about--anthracite interior. When I bought this car, I took a lot of pictures of it at the storage yard and you can see those here.
/BEFORE

AFTER (parcel shelf is loose)

I've got a line on some red/black seats that I could possibly be putting in--that would be pretty sweet.

The theme is actually "Subtle but racy". Both the wheels and side vents are recessed red with black in front. I'm planning on doing my aftermarket intercooler grill in chili red, but the scoop is Jet Black. The headlight rings are also in Jet Black--red is too much for what I'm striving for.

I've thought about the handle in red, but looking at the line on the drivers side--black gas cap, door handle, black/red side vent--the red seems too strong.

Thanks!! Haha, owning a black MINI is tough!! My shop is situated alongside a major freeway so there is no way to keep all the awful dust off it from day to day.

Thanks everyone. Today I pulled into the shop and immediately it went into the paint booth. So now I'm taking everything apart and having all the remaining parts painted and a few things that I got inspired to do after seeing it for the past weekend, lol.

To do list for this week:

Paint front bumper Jet Black (lots of chips)
shave MINI logo on bonnet (weld and paint)
rePaint bonnet Jet Black
rePaint Ociari scoops Jet Black
Paint Drivers Side Rear Quarter Panel Jet Black and fix small dent
Paint rear bumper Jet Black to fix some gouges from previous owner
Paint front chrome license plate frame to Jet Black

Substitute Jet Black Intercooler Scoop for the CF one--anyone want a Benfer CF scoop for cheap?? lol.
Paint the custom intercooler scoop grill Chili Red
Paint the black plastic intercooler cover Jet Black and the S logo Red

Paint Inner door ring Jet Black (from anthracite) and handle Chili Red
Paint Tach ring (haven't decided JB or CR)
Paint Boost Gauge to match
Paint airbag steering wheel ring to match (JB or CR??)
Paint Downtubes Jet Black
Paint Exterior Door Handles Jet Black
Paint chrome window surround at base of window

Possibly Paint sunroof surround--still deciding

And that should wrap up the painting this time around =P

Richard

Well now I just feel stupid for not putting down the laundry I was folding and going out to check out your MINI when you came over yesterday. I didn't know you had painted bits to show off! It looks cool and unique. I'll see ya at AMVIV.

Maybe if I had been folding mine, instead of Ed's, you would've remembered.
