Anybody have the stick on Chrome interior pieces?
i want to do the chrome lined interior, but i dont want to spend 150 dollars on a few pieces of plastic, and some of the aftermarket kits come with more pieces than the stock ones, not to mention they are way easier to install. does anyone have any experience or pictures of one of these kits installed? i am talking about the ones that are available on ebay and other mini sites which attach using double sided tape.
would you mind taking a few pictures for me? after reading all the steps to changing out the oem chrome pieces, id much rather stick them right on over the old ones. but im afraid they will look like they are stick ons, and not meant to be there. especially the tach piece, since you will be able to see the side where the piece overlaps.
Chrome Interior Trim
Did you buy more pieces off eBay? If so, could you let me know the vendor? There is one online now selling the complete interior set for about $120.

This are just suggestions from my recent experience, so please take it for what it's worth. I have a set of the chrome vent and tach rings on my Coop to match the chrome speedo ring. The first vent ring I overlayed put very fine scratches on my OEM vent ring's anthracite paint. This is because the chrome plating on the inside usually isn't as highly polished and smoothed as the finish on the outside. The solution was to wet sand the insides enough so they weren't abrasive anymore. You'll only need to be concerned about this in case you plan on ever removing the overlays.
I found out about the scratching because the vent ring cover wasn't seating properly. So after I pulled it off, I noticed the fine scratches (akin to a fine grit sandpaper) on the anthracite paint. So here's another suggestion if your overlays aren't seating evenly. Pull off the double-sided tape that came with the ring and cut your own smaller "dots" of double-sided tape. I used a hole puncher to make these "dots". You only need 2 or 3 of these dots mounted at the innermost curve of the overlay. Then, the vent rings and tach ring will seat quite snugly. Heck, they almost stay on without adhesive tape, by suction alone.
Thanks,
Al
