Interior/Exterior '06 Clear Tail Options?!?!?
'06 Clear Tail Options?!?!?
Can someone please tell me what clear tails will work with my '06? For what it's worth, I also have a rear fog so not sure if I can even use older models or not. I haven't gotten a straight answer.
FYI, my tails look like this now:

02-04 OEM white tails work as well. There is a small change that needs to be done, but it's very easy.
If you pop out your factory tails, you'll see that there is a bulb holder that clips to the light housing. The wiring harness plugs into this holder. For your car, you'll notice that the bulb holder is L shaped, with the turn signal at the top, the tail/brake at the bottom, and the reverse bulb shifted over towards the center of the car, resulting in the L.
With the 02-04 OEM whites, you get a straight holder. The top bulb is meant to be the rear fog, and as such, is has a red bulb in place. It, however, does not look red- instead, it appears clear, so that it won't be noticible behind the white lens. This is what is know as a "diadem" bulb.
Below the fog is a orange diadem bulb that acts as the turn signal, and then at the bottom is another red diadem bulb for tail/brake.
You'll also note that these bulbs are soldered into place. You'll need to zap them with a good soldering gun to melt the solder and pop them out-they push and twist out as normal once you melt the solder, which took me about three seconds. I've read of grinding away the solder with a dremel, but the melting way is faster.
Now, why am I telling you about the solder? Because you will need to remove the red foggie bulb from the upper position of your new holder, because this will be your reverse light. Once removed, you can simply put the clear reverse bulbs from your original lights into this socket.
Once that is done, the set is plug and play. Clip the holder back into the white housing, snap the housing into the car, and then plug the harness back in. Even though the positions of the bulbs have shifted, they all work as they're supposed to.
At this point, you will probably want to make another small change to your factory rear fog. By buying a reverse light housing for an 02-04 car, (about $20), you'll get a clear lens housing that will accept the red diadem bulb that you unsoldered from your white set. And hey, notice that you have a spare bulb as well!
And that leads us to price. I realize that there are knock offs on ebay for around $50 or so, but they do not include the correct holder, and they don't come with diadem bulbs, which are not cheap. They also don't include the 3rd brake clear LED.
I got all of that for around $250, plus the fact that it is OEM, which is always important to me but especially so when dealing with electrical components.
