Interior/Exterior SNEAK PEEK ---- GOMINIGO R56 Glove Box Tidy
SNEAK PEEK ---- GOMINIGO R56 Glove Box Tidy
After lots of work, changes and headaches we will be releasing our R56 Glove Box Tidy. Many of you have been asking for us to get it done. Well it went into full production yesterday. We added a back plate to prevent things from sliding into the glovebox, and have even made the side slot the correct size for an IPOD or MP3 player. We are making a dock for the IPOD to sit in that spot.
Here is what it looks like;

We have not set the price yet but expect it to be less than $50.00. We will also still be offering our standard colors so your GBT can match your MINI.
We should be ready to ship in the mid to late August time frame.

Are you serious? Never thought about that.
If you are willing to pay for leather, we know someone who MIGHT be willing to do it. Beyond the 'might' I do not know anything else.

In this photo the right support seems to be hovering. Looks like the manual pouch doesn't quite fit under without lifting the tidy up on the right. I returned the OEM version because of poor fit. I'd like to have one, but want to be sure the fit is good. Can you explain the what is happening in the photo?
BTW, I have your "No Holes" License Plate Bracket (LPB), and Third Brake Light PULSAR. Thanks.

good eyes Robin. Yes, it does stick up a bit. If you move the manual a little more left, that corner will lower a bit more.
Here is the rational why I made it like I did. Hopefully this will not be too long.
I thought it would be better to have a good fit when the door was closed versus sticking up a bit when open. When I was at the dealer designing this one literally sitting on their floor next to a car, the salesguys told me all the horror stories with the OEM version. How you have to place it on the door just right to get the door to close. I tried to create a shelf like my R53 version but it was impossible because of the weird shapes and angles inside the glovebox and the shear size of the owners' manual as compared to the glovebox. The glovebox is just not deep enough to be truly usable for anything large.
With that said, I wanted to make a shelf that was relatively flat to the other pieces so it could be assembled somewhat easily. I chose to make the side uprights have a good contour to the door when it is closed with some slight clearance at the top of them so if someone put something large under the shelf like the manual, the door would still close. I could have made it so the shelf was higher so it would clear the manual totally but then you really would not have any room on top of the shelf. I thought it was more important to have a little more useable room. So, yes, it was a trade-off and the right leg sticking up a little when the door is open and the manual is there is the result.
Now, as far as the fit, I think you will be happy with this one. I designed this one so that you do NOT need to place this exactly in the right position on the door and hope it closes without catching the side tabs that stick out of the OEM version. This one, you shove it all the way into the back and close. That is it. The back to this one is designed to fit against the back of the glovebox when the door is closed. That back piece will also prevent your things on the top from falling over the back edge when you open and close the door.
The center rib is there just as a partition. It is shifted to one side so that an iPod can be placed there and not move around too much while you are in the twisties. I have also developed a carrier that will fit in that spot that will pad the iPod and keep it securely located.
I hope that is not too much TMI
or more than you ever wanted to know about the design process. Seriously, if you have any questions, please ask.

GMG

From what I see, If you look at the picture, it is not pushed into the glove box, and if you look at your glove box, the right side of your glove box is not as deep due to the contour of the dash. Correct me if I am wrong, but if it is pushed back, you will not see that issue.
Alan,
I missed this thread. Looks like you've done a good job with the design. I have been eagerly waiting the arrival, since I wrote to you before you had laid eyes on your first R56.
Do you still have the map clip on this edition? I couldn't tell from the photo whether that made it to the second generation or you had to drop it because of space considerations.
Hopefully, you'll post back here when you're ready to take orders. Thanks.

Unfortunately, the map clip had to go. I tried real hard to incorporate that feature, but as you said, I ran out of room.
Hopefully, we will ready to go in little over a week.
