does anyone know how to remove wax from the wheelarches and other black plactic parts. when i picked up my mcs 2 weeks ago this wax wasn't as noticeable but now it has become very obvious. any ideas ( other than choking the detailers at the dealership)

Mothers "Back To Black" (available at any good store that carries car detailing products) works wonders for me. I bought it two weeks ago and it both did the job and added a subtle lustre to the black trim.

Someone on another thread suggested using a big rubber art eraser. (sorry I don't remember who)

It worked for me and it was easy to do.

Interesting! I'll have to try this out. I've found that the Mother's product doesn't actually provide a long-term solution. Last time I waxed my car (maybe a month ago), I meticulously did all of the trim with Mother's Back to Black. Now I suddenly have wax smears along the borders of the fenders again.

Should this thread be moved to the Detailing forum?

No Mother's back to black will not work. That is just a temporary fix. I used a spray (eagle one) and it looked better than when it came from the dealer, but again after it wears off you can see the wax. I will try the peanut butter i think.

I have to 2nd the peanut butter approach. I learned of it on one of these MINI sites and it works great and is easy.

Just rub it on with your finger, then wipe it off. Nothing to it and it is a permanent solution. I have not heard of any negative side effects.

Finally, a use for that jar of natural peanut butter that's been in my fridge for two years!

Side effects..... Maybe squirrels will start following you after smelling the peanut butter, or if you have dogs around the car, and they are anythign like mine (LOVE peanut butter!) they'll probably start licking your car....

I've had success with ammonia based solvents.

Peanut Butter, Peanut Butter, Peanut Butter....it works!

1) Put some on a rag (not a slice of bread) and rub the wheelarch area that has the wax residue.
2) Wash your wheelarches.
3) Then apply a dressing, like Mother's Back to Black.

Dish soap on a paper towel with a little water worked for me. Give it a good scrub and then rinse off. Keep the soap off the paint as it will remove the wax.

I was thinking of trying some ranch, or mabye some italian dressing not sure if it would go with the peanut butter though?!

Seriously though, I think that I'm going to try that today..

Don't use the chunky style.

That's funny, because it worked for me. Two weeks since the application and no sign of the wax residue returning.

Not WAX again!!!!

You guys carry on with your smearing layers of wax on your MINI. I'll stick with Eagle One Wax as U Dry, it's the best I've ever used and I've been polishing cars for over 52 years. It is a polymer glazing solution that leaves no swirls and doesn't discolor the black plastic wheel arches. Don't bother defending all the different pastes out there until you've tried my suggestion. Of course, you'll first have the task of getting rid of all that WAX!!

Yes, I know the Eagle One has WAX in it's name but again...it's a polymer glaze. Keep smiling. Plus it's less than $5.

Better watch out for the peanut butter, you might get a big dog licking your car--that is, if it can stomach all the ants. All that peanut butter does anyway is cover the white wax with grease.

I always thought that the bulldog in the commercial was really checking the black bits out for peanut butter residue.
