Can we start an official SHOW ME YOUR STRIPES thread?

I've always felt that the standard stripes didn't work on the MINI and it was wierd having none in the rear. I'm old enough to remember front to rear stripes on British sports cars. Went without stripes on my 04 MCS. My 06 cabrio (white) came with the standard black striipes. It doesn't quite make it.
There has to be a stripe design that works. I've seen a few on the road and on NAM. What was the historical purpose for stripes anyway? Why do stripes make a car racing hot?

So, if this thread is permitted:
SHOW ME YOUR STRIPES.

My understanding was that racing stripes were used to help easily identify cars on the track. I also recall the full length stripes and prefer them to the non-parallel MINI stripes. The most prevalent one in the 1960's was a 4" (I think) stripe with a narrow stripe on each side. This usually was off center and aligned with the driver (center of steering wheel). In the late 1960's Ford used the two wide stripes in white over a blue background on the Ford GTs and Cobras.

I'm still debating what stripe to put on my new MCS. I leaning towards the 14" Racing Stripe from MightyStripes.com, but debating color and whether to put it on the roof. I may go with that stripe on bonnet and boot and a classic (described above) stripe on the sides.

My first thought was a dark silver stripe with black edging. This is on a Pure Silver car. However, the dark silver is quite expensive. Perhaps black with white edging would be good...

I really like this on the MINI, but IMO would look even better with the cladding painted body color, this way you just focus on the white stripe (in the above cars case) and not the white stripe, side skirt color and body cladding color, just my .02 cents worth but it still looks GREAT

My 2003 MCS came with stripes when I bought it this year. The previous owner added the stripes on the back to match the front stripes. I think the yellow needs the black stripes to add some aggression to the car. I like the angle of the stripes but I need to fix the break in the stripes. Either I remove the cooper and keep the S or put the cooper back on over the stripe once it is fixed.

"go fast" stripes do not make a car hot ... they are an imitation of the past ...

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Go-faster_stripes

I guess they say "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery" I have also read they were used to help the early race car drivers keep the car tracking straight and that was a single stripe down one side ... dunno if true or not.

Now white stripes are definetely faster that other colors because they are lighter

We felt that if "Wally" was going to wear stipes, they would have to be BOLD.
