Interior/Exterior Can we start an official SHOW ME YOUR STRIPES thread?
These are three separate stripes. And I wouldn't say "glued" really...they're sticky vinyl. If you're doing it yourself, you've just got to be meticulous about spacing and measurements, and use the soapy water liberally (to help position the stripes before letting it stick.)

Thx for your reply
Isn't it too fragile with these little side stripes ?
It is my anxiety ; that's why I asked my dealer if it is possible to create transparent parts ; it is actually hard to make
I also become crazy with dimensions of these stripes
Does someone have a template (especially spacing and width) ?
I want to know if anyone can comment on the durability of the dealer applied sport stripes?
I like the look and intend to get them, but I saw a new MCS on the lot with part of the stripe peeling! I pointed it out to a MA and they said it would be an easy fix.

Next, the easy fix your MA spoke about was, to remove them and they recharge you $100 for a new set. There is no fix on this item once its been ruined. Thats the Sale's man in him speaking how the dealer will shaft you. I recommend finding out the contracted sign's company who does the stripes for your local dealer and go direct. The dealer charges $100 and my MA had told me the name of the sign's company near me and i contacted them and they quoted me out $50 only. I then realized my local dealer was trying to make 50% profit right off the bat on the stripes. I designed mine on a computer program to my liking and had my own design made. Shop smart.
The life span on the product is 2 years, depending on the solar exposure (depends on if you use an outdoor car cover in the day, when not in use) and how well you keep them clean (don't use petroleum base cleaners, they eat away the stripes or vynl period), the most is 3 years, but that means you REALLY took care of them.

I'm hoping my vinyl will last a bit longer than 2-3yrs - its pretty heavy duty stuff they use on road signs.
Good luck!
Thats why i decided to go else where and get them done to my liking with my own unique touch in design.
Wow, gotta say I LOVE all the pics in this thread. Awesome examples of you-ification. I'm not a MINI owner yet, but fully intend to join the club by year end. This just helps feed the fire, and make me consider the endless possibilities for my future MINI.
Just out of curiosity, I'd be interested to know how many of you that ended up w/custom striping jobs started out w/factory or dealer-applied stripes?
Keep the pics a-coming, and keep up the great work!

I started with the dealer stripes, and had another decal on my door, after fighting off the cops from following me everywhere around town constantly since my mini looked like a race car with a number in a circle decal on both doors. I ended up taking down all my stripes and decals and designing my own edgy slash sporty look that doesn't scream: "RACECAR!!!" My decals were a full set for a charge of $530.00 (ouch, but worth it, its perfect to my taste and everyday i look at him, he feels more like mine and i feel that new car feel all the time i get to drive him). I also got high performance vynl, which isn't offered by most sign companies and is very resistent to damage, dirt, weather, and outside conditions which is partially why it was so costly. On the down side, the sign company i use, how well known for most of its signs in Miami FL, suffer greatly from the down most shitiest customer service I've ever experienced praying daily the process of getting them made and installed was over.
I had OEM stripes. If you're undecided what to do (OEM, non-OEM...) go with what you can live with until you make a decision. I thought my car looked awfully nekkid without stripes, so I settled for OEM until i found the PERFECT stripes. I LOVE MY STRIPES!

I got these stripes from AC and put them on myself. Not bad for the first try.
They are three separate strips but they are held in place by a adhesive backing until you place them. It is actually pretty easy to do. I think realistically it would be hard to mess them up.

picture as soon as possible of course
There are some great looking stripes out there! I'm a bit disappointed that my MA didn't tell me that the stripes wouldn't last more than a couple of years though. I also wish I had the option of covering my car during the heat of the day, but I'm pretty sure that if I put a car cover on it, the cover would be stolen or vandalized in a few days. I guess I'll just keep the artwork that was sent for pre-approval and reorder them when needed. Here's a front an back shot of mine:

I wouldn't be too freaked out about them eventually looking bad. Always a chance to do something different (or something the same in my case). I like the feet on yours!!
I'm looking to add stripes to my mini and have found some rolls of vinyl stripes on eBay, but the application instructions for this brand don't mention a wet application method. Does anyone know if they can also be applied wet? Or are wet-apply and dry-apply vinyl totally separate beasts?
